| I currently have a Vortex Viper 1-4x24 that I'm pretty happy with, but I wouldn't mind having a little more magnification in a similar sized package. What are my options for a 1-6 scope in the $500 or so price range? I like the Vortex Razor but I don't want to spend quite that much. Thanks |

I settled in a Weaver Kaspa for that reason.
Positives: price 1-6x illumination is great for low light negatives: eye relief lense coatings suck I paid $200 for the scope with a pepr QD mount. So I can't really complain. I'll see how it works out this hunting season. |

The upcoming primary arms 1-6 will be affordable $250, but coming from a vortex, I really dont think you'll like the eyebox much (from what I hear). Thats the only one Im aware of in your price range.
The best choice is to spend 3x your budget and get the Leupold mk6. SWFA's a good option at only 2x your budget. ...or you could forget the 1x requirement and get a 1.5-6x or 2-8x (plenty of those out there). |

If you can go up to $1000, there are some decent options, but realistically, a 1-4 can do quite well even when shooting out to longer ranges (500+ yards). |

I've heard much praise of the SWFA 1-6, been up i the air about that vs the vortex HD, but for the 400$ difference in price you can buy a mount and have 200$ left over. I'm a big fan of Vortex optics, and finally got to handle the 1-6 Razor HD Gen 2 yesterday. Killer glass, but the thing is insanely heavy. I'm talking it can be used as a billy club heavy - the thing is a weapon in itself. Way too heavy for a 6x optic in my book. I'll be going with the SWFA, or step up the the Mark 6 when I make a move on a 1-6 optic. |

I am torn, but above all the majority of my targets and shooting will be under 300m so 1-6 might be more then i need(though my eyes aren't overly strong) |
