I am new to AR's just bough fist one the other day. I picked up a used maytech sight at local pawn shop for $35 out the door. It does have a fair amount of wear on the adjustment knob, and is missing the 2nd screw that I guess locks it to the rail. Just looking for opinions if this is what I should keep or move on to something else? like this? http://www.bing.com/shopping/matech-buis-back-up-iron-sight-picatinny-black/p/7F604B5D1BE263475003?q=maytech+sight&lpq=maytech%20sight&FORM=HURE

I think they are junk brand new.  The cross screw breaks.  You don't need the elevation cam.  That keeper detent is going to fail at any given moment.

ETA........the simple aperture sight picture is nice.

Post a pic of your rifle - what is it's intended purpose?

PSA basic model. I did not buy a sight with it as all they had were magpul and not sure what to get.  I have looked at other iron sights, cheaper red dots, and cheaper scopes. I do have some interest in making some long range shots. With scope or iron. I also like the idea of running this sight or something similar and just putting on a cheap red dot when playing around. Then again I am not sure and believe I need to find a gun show to see some things in person. I am going shooting later this week and for the price I think its ok.

I'm a huge fan of the Larue LT-103 fixed rear sight.  They are cheap (under $100) and stupid durable.

If you need a collapsible rear iron, I like the Troy Industries model.

I have Matechs on all but one of my AR15s and know of a couple others that belong to friends.  No issues with any of them so far.

Someone makes/sells heavy duty screw/clamp replacements for them so evidently many folks break the screws by over tightening.  I believe the military uses them as BUIS on issue rifles.
