I have used the 4x ACOG and like them quite a bit.
However I need an ACOG for a Christensen Arms CA 10, so I am wondering what are the differences/advantages over the 4x32 vs the 3.5x35 for 308 use. In looking at the stats, the 4x is lighter, shorter, and has a larger field of view. The 3.5 has 308 reticles, and has a longer eye relief 2.4" vs 1.5". I fired a few shots out of the 308 CA 10 with a 4x ACOG and did not have any problems with it hitting me in the head or face. I looked through a 3,5x35 a few days ago and it seemed that I could read the distance numbers much better in the 4x. So I would like to hear from those of you that have some experience with the 3.5 ACOG, or those that have used the 4x32 ACOG on a 308. I will also give some info on the Christensen Arms CA 10 after I have shot if a few more times. So far I like it a bunch. It only weighs a little over 7 lbs!!! |

you will end up with a hung jury on this . the 3, 3.5 and 4 power acogs all have there fan club and every person has a reason why there particular optic is best , especially for them . me myself I dont have any issue shooting a short eye relief scope or acog on my rock river lar8 . some people are more re oil sensitive and maybe they think they need more room between the scope and there eye than they really need . my prefrence is the 4x since I like using my rifle for varmints as well as other duties .
p.s. I can identify with the longer eye relief crowd by the courtesy of a browning a-bolt 300 mag and a 4x14 nikon scope that made me a proud member of the half moon club . |

Hope I can help I have 3 Acogs (not enough ) I use the TA-11's on my 308's The oldest TA-11 is 10 years old and at that time there wasn't so many different configurations back then, most were used on 5.56 rifles. The 3.5x35 Acog also have a 10mm exit pupil compared to the 4x32 8mm which is necessary for the longer eye relief. I believe the 4x32 came out to reduce the weight of the 3.5x35 and were basically designed for the 5.56 rifles with the lower recoil. In some competition they like the 3.5x35 on 5.56 rifle even with the add weight because with the larger exit pupil you can acquire a faster sight picture. Now the newer TA-11H-308 has a much larger reticle and numbers then the old TA-11. They seem the same size as the numbers in my 4x32 Acog ecos. (TA-31). I have heard a lot of people have no problem with a 4x32 on 308's and I wouldn't be afraid to switch between the two. Personally if the eye relief isn't a problem for you using a 4x32 on a 308 I see no reason not to use it. |

I don't have one but looked into the 4x32 bullet drop for my 14.5 308
It is all the same almost within 2 moa until you get out to like 600yds then the 5.56 starts dropping a lot faster so it will work in a 308 but bear in mind I did this test using 20in bbl vel., thinking in getting rcoa4
on another note, I have read that people using them in 308 have had the acog lightly smack their shooting glasses from recoil though

For weight and price, and since it was shootable for you, I would recommend the 4X.
BUT I definitely see a lot of people going on about the merits of the TA11s due to that eye-box and eye-relief. I would have thought you would have needed it with .308, but if you can get by with the 4X, I say why not do it. |

Guys, thanks for the info. I am going to try and get to the rante tomorrow and shoot the 4x on the 308 a hundred rounds or so, form various positions.
i can also shoot it out to 500 yards so I can check the Ballistic reticle as well. As others have stated, there is not actually that much difference between the ballistics with a 308 vs a 223 out to 5 or 600 yards, especially if you are using a 4x scope and a not super accurate sub moa rifle, firing from field positions. In a few days I am going to the BIG city and look thorugh some 3.5x35's... |
