Hey guys,
I've been reading on this for awhile and still can't come to a decision on the best option here. I finally got my rig complete during the last week and sighted it in for 100 yards today. Grouping is tight @ 100 yards and very happy with this. Now, what to do if I need to be accurate 10-25 yards, like in a home defense situation. I tried this out after sighting it in @ 100 yards and the grouping was about 4-6 inches low. I understand why the grouping is low but it will be hard to aim that high if I need to grab a target quick. The question here is are there other recommendations on yardages to sight in at? Is a laser a good option for close quarter situations? Should I sight in my MBUS sights for 25 yards and use those for close quarters? Should I get a secondary red dot for close quarters? I'm still new to this and would like to hear the best options out there... MBUS is 1/3 co-witness if that helps... |

Your rounds should not be hitting 4-6 inches low at 25 yards if you are sighted in at 100 yards. My 1-4x24 scope is about 2.75" high above bore (haven't bore sighted yet). For a 2.75" high Scope the numbers go like this: 2.75" low at 0 yds 2.52" low ar 5 yds 2.28" low at 10 yds 2.09" low at 15 yds 1.85" low at 20 yds 1.65" low at 25 yds 0.83" low at 50 yds 0.28" low at 75 yds 0.00 at 100 yds For a 4.00" high Scope the numbers go like this: 4.00" low at 0 yds 3.7" low at 5 yds 3.43" low at 10 yds 3.15" low at 15 yards 2.87" low at 20 yds 2.6" low at 25 yds 1.46" low at 50 yds 0.59" low at 75 yds 0.00 at 100 yds Edit: added some more numbers for less than 25 yds. No matter what zero you choose; the bullet will always start off as low as your sight is mounted high. If you have an Android phone; download "STRELOK" its a ballistic app (may be avail for iPhone too?). Otherwise you can google for some online browser based apps. |
| It's setup for 1/3 co-witness so it's mounted higher. I used the range finder for 100 yards but didn't bother when I brought the target way in... It could have been more like 15 yards and was estimating the inches but it was at least 4" low. I really need to get back out to the range and test the grid you've provided. Another user posted a vid so going to watch that and I'll update after my next range trip with some accurate close range yardage. |

8.5 minutes well worth your time.....pay attention at the end......starting at about 6:48 Yup, I'm glad I took the time to watch this video. Looks like I'm going to be spending next Saturday sighting in 36 yards and trying to find a range big enough to confirm 300 yards. Thank you very much for posting this vid, very helpful. |

How high is your red dot mounted? 1/3 co-witness so it's aroud 1.7" high (middle or scope). 300 yard zero seems to be the way to go. |
