I just received a leupold mark 6 1-6 and the reticule does not stay lit unless your eye is pretty much center in the eye box. I called leupold and they said this is normal for ffp scopes.   Can anyone verify this?

I love this scope but this is a little annoying.

Its not really an FFP thing, but a known issue with how Leupold engineered the illumination on that model IIRC.

Its not defective, more of an idiosyncrasy.  FFP may make the problem challenging, but its not an issue all FFP scopes have.

The only FFP illuminated scope I have is my bushnell 3-12x44. The reticle stays lit no matter where my head placement is.

How bad is yours? I think you have to keep in mind it is a variable power rifle scope. Not a red dot. Every scope is a set of compromises. There is no perfect one no matter what the price is.

Well i guess i was expecting to see the reticule lit no matter my eye placement. Maybe its still lit and its just the angle im seeing it at but its rather odd. Others have complained about this as well.

From what ive read the mark 6 uses a different system than the vxr line which act more like a red dot. Im assuming leupold did this for a reason and maybe i just need to get use to it. I love the TMR reticule and the ffp is pretty cool.

There is some discussion on snipershide about the illumination. Supposedly, Leupy has an updated illumination module in the newer scopes.

S/N's ending in X are reported to have the old module and those ending in Y have a new module.

Some have reported Leupy is willing to correct X scopes. I haven't read a report from anyone that has sent theirs in for the update.

Who knows ???

Mine is a little picky about eye placement but with a decent cheek weld I am able to run drills at full speed(fast crawl for me) without issue. Mine is an X version. I'm waiting for a report from someone that has sent theirs back before I call about mine.

Very happy with this scope. I've sighted it in, check repeatability and added a Switchview. The 6x is just what I was missing over the 1-4's. I can now see well enough that I was making head shots on my bigdog steel at 400yds and hits at 705yds.

I just need to get it to a match.

Ive been watching a thread on snipershide as have others about the X and Y thing. Its a myth. Ive called leupold and emailed them, both times they said there is no difference and there is nothing wrong w the scope.

There is a thread about this on m4carbine as well.  Im no engineer so i dont know why they do this but there must be a reason. Im hoping to get some rounds downrange this weekend and hope i still like the scope. I prefer leupold products and i want this to work.

I have the GRSC 1-6 FFP. The lit reticle is visible regardless of head placement/alignment. As far as I can see, the leupold CMR reticle is a close approximation to the CRS reticle, only not as quick for ranging IMO. The GRSC has been 100% for me.

See thats why i dont understand why leupold would say this is normal.
