I like the concept of a fixed sight with a BDC reticle and a high mounted CQB dot sight.  Is this a great concept or is there some basic tactical failure that needs worked around?  For example, a 1-4x is great, unless you are shooting 1x at see your breath distances or you raise your rifle to shoot 5 yards with it on 4x.  I have trained around this issue, but it is still an issue.

My AR is a 5.56 which I shoot 0 - 500 yards with.  For fun, I do some short and some long range(~300 yard) shooting.  I would like to continue that fun and be able to have a back up dot sight on it for around the house.  I really don't want separate optics due to the hassle of rezeroing.  I would also like to move the festfire 8MOA sight to my Glock on occasion. . .

So, I'm wondering if this sight setup is marketing or if people are happy with it.  Also, how is this AR-556 scope to use?  How is using the fastfire over the top of the AR-536?

That is the exact setup I am using on my AR. I have the AR-536 zeroed at 100 yards and have shot 5 shot groups as small as 1.25". I am new to the AR and have never shot long distances until recently so I'm fairly sure this setup is more accurate than I am. I have the Fastfire zeroed at 25 yards and can easily shoot half inch groups at that distance with it. Transition from the scope to the Fastfire is fairly quick, but you do lose your cheek weld when it is mounted that high.
When I bought the AR-536 my plan was to mount fold down iron sights behind it and use a quick disconnect mount to remove the scope if I needed to use the iron sights. The problem with that plan is the scope has to be mounted too far back on the rail for proper eye relief to leave enough room for the BUIS. My solution was to use the Dueck Defense offset iron sights and the American Defense AD-84 mount for the AR-536. The AD-84 mount allows you to mount the scope at the correct position while still leaving room for the offset iron sights.

The AR536 is pretty tall to mount a red dot on top. I'd look for an offset mount if you want it to actually be fast.

Had a 536 on my M&P15 with a FF2 on top and loved it. Used the ADM QD mount and it worked great. The FF2 does sit a little high but not really from a physical perspective as it feels pretty natural, but it does raise it a bit above the bore line which will affect hold over calcs. Sighted the 536 in for 100 yards then lined the AR up on a bench to center mass at the 100 mark and dialed the FF over to line up with 536, close enough just need to remember it needs a hold over as you get close if precision is needed. I recently sold the setup only because I wanted something with a little more magnification, otherwise I would've kept it.
