Hi all, I am working on my first AR build which will be my SHTF rifle. I've been exploring BUIS options and I've pretty much got it narrowed down to a Troy or a Magpul Gen 2. After looking at the results from a drop test the Magpul survived the fall better and didn't get knocked off zero. I like the look of the troy better and the fact that it's metal over polymer, but if the polymer survives impact better why should I spend an extra $50 for something that wont?
Is there something I'm missing here? any insight would be much appreciated, I am open to other options thanks |

both will serve you well imo; pick then one that holds your budget, upgrade as necessary later

I own a rear MBUS, and I like it, but I don't know if I would go so far as to say that it is superior to Troy's buis. If you are mounting it on a rail and it will be used as a back-up sight, I think either will serve you well.
Troy is very well known as a great buis and if the front sight is going on a railed gas-block, Magpul's is not intended to hold up to the heat generated in the gas-block. |

I thought about going with the MBUS but they just looked cheap and bulky to me. |

I have had both Troy and Magpul, and both worked. |

I also like the way the Troy looks better, but looks and money aside. Which will survive the most abuse? I'll let you know when I actually get to a failure point of either. Unless the Chinese invade and we go all "Red Dawn," I doubt I'll ever reach that point. |

Neither one will survive that much abuse. They both have a metal post up front that tends to bend easy. I've seen quite a few issue rifles with bent front sight posts. FWIW: Either one will work fine, but if you smash them into a brick wall with some force don't expect them to survive. I also prefer HK style front sights because they keep the front post more protected. Personally the type of BUIS I choose is base on the planned mission/goal that the rifle is built to fulfill. For my SBR I use a Troy fixed front with a tritium insert and a Larue fixed rear sight. These are 100% cowitnessed with the Aimpoint M2. For an SPR type build I like the KAC micro adjustable rear sight and I'm not to picky on the front. |
