I ordered an EOTech and would like to use a magnifier with it, as it is going on a .308 rifle. 1st question, should I go for a 3x or a 6x magnifier? The rifle is fairly accurate, but the longest range available locally is 410 yards. I feel 3x should be sufficient for that range and may offer better clarity and field of view than the 6x. The 6x magnifier would allow me to shoot at longer ranges, but would also blow up the EOTech's dot more. Which magnification would you suggest and why?
My other question is about the available mounts. I really like the function of the American Defense "Swing to Side" mount for the reason that it positively retains the magnifier in both positions, but it won't fit the larger bell of the 6x. The other option I am looking at is the Aimpoint "Twist Off" mount. I like that the weapon can be lighter when the magnifier is not in use, but the fact that I would have to store the magnifier separately seems like an additional pain in the ass. The function of the Swing to Side mount is leaning me towards the 3x magnifier, what do you guys suggest, and what gives you that opinion? Thanks. |
| My old diabetic eyes want at least 4x for 400 yards +, but in NC those distances are pretty rare. My 4x ACOG is perfect for my needs. I tried the Eotech and Magnifier and it was to heavy and took up to much real estate. The ACOG stays on my 20" rifle and ther EXPS2 stays on the "GoTo" house rifle, with no magnifier. YMMV? |

Fair enough, I have rail real estate to spare and the weight won't be an issue. But I can definitely understand desiring simpler dedicated optics choices. The problem is I am trying to put together a "do all" rifle.
