Sorry guys but this is another one of those "which one" posts but I don't know where else to get an informed answer.

I have an Eotech XPS2 on my AR now but don't get optimal results in part because I wear corrective lenses.  My eyes are also 69 years old :-)

As with others, the Eotech reticle pixelates and doubles sometimes worse than others. I wear progressive bifocals which I'm sure contributes to the issue.  I find the Eotech works well for me shooting Steel Challenge with my .22 upper where speed is the driver,  but doesn't do as well with the .223 upper at distance where the blurred centre dot affects my accuracy.

I'm very close to buying an Aimpoint for the .223 and will leave the Eotech on the .22.

The two models I'm considering are the Pro which pretty much comes complete for my purposes and the older CompC3 which would require an elevated QD mount.  While I haven't been able to compare the two directly, the Pro seems bulkier to me which is why the CompC3 is on the list despite the additional cost of about $150.00.  I emailed Aimpoint with my questions but got no response.

For those of you who can compare, please tell me if the extra cost of the CompC2 is warranted or if the Pro is the way to go.

Thanks,

Gord

PROs are superb optics and can be found in the EE in the mid $300s, but you gotta be quick. Go with a PRO.

Thanks!  Does anyone have any comments regarding the clarity of the Aimpoint dots when viewed with glasses?

I wear glasses and use a Comp M2. It just depends on what brightness setting and if your glasses and the lens of the rds is clear. You will get a little spill or blurry affect if you turn it up high. But that is common on other optics when the brightness is turned up.

I had no problems with mine. No star bursting as you would call it.

I have astigmatism which has rendered both Eotech and Aimpoint reticles increasingly distorted w/time. If you find the Aimpoint's dot too distorted for your taste your only options are a prismatic optic w/adjustable focus (like a good 1-4x variable or the 1x Leupold Prismatic) or, surprisingly, the tritium/fiber optic sights like the Trijicon RX 30/34 or Meprolight M21 series. W/both the Prismatic & Trijicons/Meprolights, their reticles are sharp and clear to me despite my astigmatism.

I have an Aimpoint CompM4s and I have looked through an Eotech (forgot which one).  I am also older and wear contacts but also have astigmatism.  What I can tell you is I shoot multigun with my carbine and I can easily hit man size targets up to 200 yards with the M4s, BUT if I have to do headshots only at 100 yards or small (6”) targets at 200 yards, it is hard for exactly the same reason you mentioned i.e. the smear of the dot makes it hard to center on the small targets.  So going to the Aimpoint or for that matter any RDS is not going to make it better.  What will help is if you go to a quality 1-4x variable power scope.  I went with a Trijicon 1-4x and it is perfect since the diopler gives you a clear sight picture and its relatively lighter weight makes it good for fast gun handling.  That is where you should be looking and not at another RDS.
