Purpose longer range target shooting from 100+-200+  yards
guns will be Daniel defense ar 15 m4 clone and or  ruger 10/22

I currently have a eotech 516 and 3x magnifier on the ar iron sites on the ruger

Iam looking at  the vortex  crossfire ii 3x9 50 bdc   vs the vortex 3x9  diamondback 40  I am guessing the diamondback is a bit more rugged from the discription since this is not a hunting gun may not pertain for the extra money.   What are the comprimises  between the   2 scopes I guess the 50 objective should bring more light in?

The crossfire is  nitrogen purged the diamondback is  argon purged   both inert gases so what is the difference?  There is a 30 difference between the two so both are reasonable.  the last scope I am looking at is the  nikon p 223     also in the price range  has the nikon name and I like their online bullet calculator for bdc

The only way to gain from a larger diameter objective is in low light conditions under high magnification, otherwise its just more mass.

If youre not shooting past 200, a BDC probably wont help.

thanks for the input  I agree about the ranges although I would like to shoot further here in the east   most of the  shooting ranges  are lucky to have a 100 yard range however there is a longer range place about a 35 minutes away I would like to   try.  I don't think the bdc takes away but rather adds on.  I found out   vortex also has a bdc calculator on their site also.    I think anyone of those would be okay for me still trying to narrow it   down

I have two of the Nikon scopes.  One is an M-223 1-4x, the other is an M-223 2-8x.  I use them on a Stag-Arms 2-T and have the SpotOn software on an iPhone.  I really like the scopes and the software, at least for a 223.  I've only shot it out to 300 yards, but worked great there.

I don't have anything else to compare it to, however.  But so far, I think they are excellent.  3" group at 300 yards with the Stag.  I have maybe 600 rounds experience with the Nikons.
