Does anyone know why the Specter DRs have this flat spot on them?

Clearance for taller rear sights would be my guess.

It isn't parallel to where a sight would mount, it is more of a 45 degree angle off the side of the scope.

I do not know I never thought about it.  When I talk to them I will have to ask.

Ok, but even without the cutout, those would clear.  I think, and this is just what I think,
that they cut off that material at an angle off the back of the scope, so when you are
pivoting your optics to catch on the picatinny rail, at the right angle it will clear the BUIS.

That's a great guess.  That's one of those things you don't really think of until you try it and realize there's material in the way.
