ACOG's are not cheap at all.  Used ones will make your wallet pucker up.  What is your price range, and what exactly are the specifications you want in an optic?

I am just basically looking for a optic the size of a acog to be used in ranges of 75 to 100 yards, any other suggestions? Looking for decent accuracy as well but that is obvious

very exspensive but they are awesome. i just got my first one and its a TA01 not has exspensive as some of the other ones, but enough to make this poor boys wallet slim. i love it though if you enjoy great accuracy and shooting you will love them. i tested mine today with a beer can at 25 yards and hit the can all 3 shots i fired. it makes accuracy really easy. its like cheating

I met a marine who got out and was called back.  His mom and her co-workers chipped in and purchased a ACOG for him when he was leaving.  He said they are good for 500 yard shots.  I assume he was talking targets the size of a small statured man............

they are good out too 800 yards is what my bdc goes too. the width of the cross hairs is supposed to be the width of a human torso at 500 yrds. that goes for the chevron horseshoe, donut reticles also. so yeah he was basically right.

I own a ACOG T11g-h and a Aimpoint m4s. The ACOG is not so fun to shoot in the 0-75 yard range "FOR SPEED" tho....takes some practice! The m4s has no problems hitting steal at 200 yards and is "FAST" close in as well. If you don't own a red dot yet, id go that way first. Then try and get your hands on some different ACOG before you spend the money!

I dont regret getting the ACOG at all, i just wouldn't recommend that as your first optic.

But you didnt ask for all that info....

GL finding anything under say $800

I got my TA11 used from the Kittery Trading Post. I traded my TA01NSN for it, they currently have two used TA01NSN's for $775 both are in 95% condition. One of the used NSN's is my previous scope, it was manufactured in 2008 so the tritium is good for a long time to come. Thats not a pad price for a  ACOG it 95%+ condition. You can find them on their website under the used guns page.

I would take a previous posters suggestion and start with a red dot until you are familiar with using optics over iron sights. Red dots are suprisingly accurate out to 200-275 yards and super fast up close. They allow you to focus of the target instead of the front sight which is great for picking up multiple targets. I can even shoot pretty decent 100 yard groups with my micro red dot that I have mounted at a 45 degree angle so I can use the  ACOG in tandem with it. I find it a more ergronomic set up than having the micro red dot mounted on top of the ACOG.

I ended up getting the TNVC red dot which is advertised on this forum for $135, its does everything the Dr Optics does for a couple hundred dollars less. You might want to start out with a Bushnell TRS-25, it is waterproof to 30 ft., has a sharp 2moa dot and is very reasonably price under $100 bucks. You will have to buy a riser mount but UTG sells a nice Q.D. unit available on Amazon for under 10 bucks. Its a cheap reliable set up that wont break the bank but will get you on target reliable. If you were going to use it as a duty rifle I would spend the extra money (+$600) on the Aimpoint T1, but for the range you really cant beat the TRS in a UTG mount all for under $125.

Once you get use to the speed of a red dot there is no going back. I had to have one mounted even though the TA11 has the BAC feature. I wish someone would manufacture a l.e.d. for the acog that attatches to BAC somehow and had a rotary switch to illuminate the BAC on command... now that product would sell lol. I find a tslight counter clockwise cant  of the rifle will bring the red dot up super fast and I still can make accurate +500yard hits with the ACOG on demand.

Good luck with what ever you decide to go with.

I currently am using a utg red dot, it is decent accuracy at 50 yards but the prob is when it's midday you can hardly see the red dot in the sight at all and the mount I am using is one of those quick disconnects and has a tendency of hanging on my gear and falling off which is obviously irritating!

UTG QD mounts just look like they would snag anything that comes near them.

You can't really compare the quality (or lack of quality) of UTG to real optics like Aimpoint, Trijicon, etc... They are two totally opposite ends of the spectrum. When you get a quality optic you will not have any problem seeing the dot/reticle. Quality costs money. Same goes for quality QD mounts, they are nothing like UTG in any way, shape or form.

If you are going to use it at 75 yards you may want to look at one of the reflex sights instead, they run around $500.
An ACOG is a great sight for longer range shots, my TA01 is calibrated to 800 yards, that's kind of overkill for your stated use.

The utg QD mounts do indeed snag every damn thing, it's annoying as hell for your optic to fall off during a pack. I was also wandering if there is iron sights that can be attached and used as well as an optic, say one that could be seen through a turned off red dot perhaps?

I actually had a Bushnell TRS25 not the UTG red dot. The Bushnells red dot is visible in ANY light condition, even looking through it in bright sunlight. I dont have any experience with the UTG red dot only the mount.

I can see were the UTG mount might hang up on clothing but I didnt have that problem at all.

I just got an airsoft acog for my .22lr upper. It is a surprisingly nice copy of the acog.

However

DO NOT get a cheap copy to put on a standard AR-15. Anything you try and buy cheap on optics wise, you will never get to hold a zero on a 5.56. I have been there, and there is no point in buying an optic you have to rezero every time you are at the range. It gets embarrassing and frustrating fast. You're better off with iron sights and saving up in the meantime. Also buying good sights used usually turns out well. They are built like tanks, and so they don't tend to wear out just because they've got some use.

Or if you are wanting a scope...  The Nikon Prostaff series has always done well by me.   Though the Prostaff is nowhere near the quality of my TA31
