I have been using a cheaper red dot but have found it to be accurate but not as accurate as I would like, what are my choices besides a red dot?

1-4x scopes.
ACOG's.
Adding a magnifier to your red dot.

For precision shooting you need magnification. To shoot real tiny groups at 100 yards when people next to me are peppering their entire target, I crank my scope all the up to highest power (at least 9x).
A 3-9x40mm scope is a good all around medium range scope.

define your idea of medium range. would say 400-700 here ACOGs are best 1-4 best for low end 3-9 best for budget minded.

I am thinking 100 to 200 yards max. I really like the idea of a ACOG so what is a economical option for a ACOG?

I like the Nikon M223 3x12-42 shoots real tiny groups at 100yds. Haven't tried any further out as no ranges around here go that far.
