So I've been throwing around some ideas. I already have a TA31 ECOS, a TA01ECOS and I would like a TA31CH. I converted a TA31ECOS to a TA31CH with NSN iron sights on it. So Ive been considering the argument about cheek position and consistency vs ease of use. Anybody have any thoughts?

| I might be missing your question.... I have two rifles with ACOGS, both have A1 stocks with rounded butt pads...with the Ergo grips, I get pretty consistent cheek weld with my cheek touching the charging handle...one of the ACOGS is a 1.5x16 orange triangle, other is a TA31F Red Chevron that replaced an older TA01 with black dot...weak hand three fingers on vertical foregrip with weak index finger aligned down the full float tube... both full float tubes round, with a single rail on bottom |

If you like the red dot on top, use it. If you don't like it but still want the dot for close in work look into getting a 45 degree offset mount for the dot and put it just in front of your ACOG. Some people think it is easier to rotate the rifle slightly than lifting their head up off the stock.

It's not really that difficult to use especially since it's close range only. I was just wondering what everyone else was thinking as far as consistency. The RMR mounted on top of all my ACOGs isn't an issue as long as you train with it, like you would any other optic or weapon system. It gives you full ambidextrous abilities, that you won't get with a 45-degree offset mount. If you want it for the range, an offset mount will work. If you want it for combat/SHTF/Zombie Apocalypse/U.N. Takeover/etc., transitioning to your weak-side is a real possibility, and should be considered. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7124/7415632514_c6de4e84c7_b.jpg Another thing- there is a reason why I keep a front flip-cap on all my ACOGs........you can use the dual-illuminated ACOGs as an OEG at close-range with the flip-cap closed. It works almost as good as an Aimpoint from 25-feet and in......however, the POA/POI drastically changes any farther than that, and is only recommended for close-up stuff. Good info, but i wonder how the rmr would work as a primary optic on your sbr. |

Funny you ask, because I have a Dual-Illuminated RMR with 9 MOA dot on it right now. It works wonderfully. My only complaint is that when looking from a dark area into a lighted area, the dot is a little hard to pick up (same weaknesses as an ACOG). Other than that, its really nice. I'd rather have to accommodate the wash-out issue than have to deal with batteries.
I'll get some pics of my SBR up soon. |

What mount do you have? |

Airborne Infantryman.
You rocking some LWRC up in there? lol. I'm running an LW M6A1 10.5 and a 14.7PA. I've been training with the systems recently, it was just put to me at a school that consistency was more critical than I'd been allowing for, but I was figuring that close range it wouldn't matter. I cannibalized a TA31ECOS to create a TA31CH with iron sights on top that I took to A stan, and have a TA01ECOS that I'm running on my "go" rifle. I've been having some issues with the RMR smacking on my helmet when I try to run it, which was the big thing about switching, but I found that the iron sights on my makeshift TA31CH-NSN were giving me the same grief. I've been trying to mount the ACOG farther forward, but it's been bad on eye relief.... |

What mount do you have? The battery powered 4-MOA RMRs on my TA31ECOS's are good for 2 years constant-on, or up to 5 years in storage. I have an ADM 1/3rd co-witness mount for my RMR on my SBR. |

This thing is for having a highly concealable PDW......oh well. Ya live and ya learn. The 9 MOA dot is more than sufficient and eye-catching.

You will just need to train with the acog in order to use the sights on top of it. |
