While I really like the scope for hunting, I am not sure that the same level of sensitivity in the  motion activation unit is a good idea if this is truley to be marketed as a patrol scope.
Like hunting, I want the ability to pick up the thing and have it switched onto the correct setting, I dont want to have to turn it on and then dial thru brightness settings to find the one I need.
The VX-R partol is going to becom active every time the vehicle hits a bump or takes a hard turn, this is going to run down the battery in no time flat. As much as I like the idea I think the Aimpoint technology and 8000 hr run time has it beaten.
Leupold should up the sensitivity or offer an reduced sensitivity model for scopes that will be true "patrol" rifles.

My Aimpoint Micro has been on for the past 2 years while attached to me rifle. I  changing to a variable power optic too and had the same concern about using the VXRs auto feature. You can turn it off manually though and switch it on when you need it. I ultimately went with a different  1-4 for the reticle and  lower end magnification being closer to a true 1x. Everything I have read and seen about the VXR is great though

I have the VXR fire dot.

After you get the setting you want you hold the button and it shuts off it remembers the setting for brightness when you turn it back on.
No need to go thru the settings again.

Considering the battery cost about a buck, I would just put a new one in before I went hunting.
