I had a decent scope, old but reliable until today. The scope won't adjust right to left only up and down. I am not looking for a scope that is expensive, I only need a scope for 200-300 yards. I usually am only target shooting at around 100 yards and my longest range at my home is about 180. I was just hoping for some help or ideas on optics, I am very new and blind in this area. This is my current build with the broke scope.

Nikon, Burris, and even Bushnell have some nice offerings for a decent price.  1-4x power or 3-9x would suit your needs just fine.

Avoid Barska.

I just put a Konus m30 on my savage and love it!  It has a built in level bubble inside it.  Very cool.  Good glass

Not sure what your budget is,  but this would be my first choice based on your description

Im not sure what your price range is but if I had to guess I would suspect that it isn't over $300 which eliminates most of the really good really interesting stuff.  There are some fixed power tactical scopes  at SWFA.com in the Super Sniper line  they make a fixed 6x a 10x a 12x a 16x and a 20x.  If you hunt this rifle under 100 yds stay with the fixed 6x but if you only use this rifle for target work the 16x would be a really nice scope.  The older ones are mill dot the newest version out soon will be a reticle called a mil quad that is a very nice tactical reticle. These new mil quad scopes have the knobs in 1/10 mil clicks where the mil dot version has 1/4 moa clicks.  These scopes hold their value very well compared to other scopes. Good Luck. LInk to scopes

This one will go on sale at Midway for $299 soon.  When it does, buy it.   A whole lotta scope for the money.  Big time bang for the buck.

I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 and it has proven to be reliable for me. It has capped turrets, no illumination or any special bells or whistles. Just a good variable magnified scope. It has always held zero for me on both 223 and 308 rifles. The only thing I can recommend is to consider upgrading from what you previously had. For instance a higher range of magnification. You'll appreciate it.

LM beat me to it this time but this is the scope you want.  I bought three of them.  Its probably the best scope under $450 IMO.  It goes on sale a lot but its worth even the non sale price.
