| Are they worth it or avoid? Also would a magnifier fit on my rail with a EO 512 and MBUIS on it ? |
|
I picked up an Aimpoint 3X clone a few years ago to try out the concept behind my CompM2. It was cheap glass and looked like it. Eye relief was extraordinarily short. I sold it. After trying a couple of real magnifiers, I decided on an ACOG and haven't looked back.
More to your question, I don't think the clones are worth it. There are some relatively inexpensive (compared to Aimpoint or EoTech) non-clone magnifiers like Vortex that you might look into; I'm sure someone on here will chime in about them if you can't find them via 'search.' Unless you bridge the gap to a railed handguard, I don't think you'll fit an EoTech 512, MBUS, and magnifier on an an upper receiver together. |
| The best budget magnifier out there is the Larue Poor Boy. Larue doesn't sell them anymore but they pop up and the second hand market from time to time. They are re-purposed magnifiers from German rocket launcher sights. The quality of the glass is excellent and they are very durable. |

Yes they have very good glass but they're only 2x or something like that which really limits their utility. I bought the aimpoint 3x several years ago and have been very happy with it, eye relief is excellent and there is no eyestrain when using it. Ymmv. The vortex was okay but It was very noticeable for me when not focused exactly right. It was much less expensive but after using the aimpoint for so long I wasnt Satisfied with the vortex. The only thing id change with mine is that I'd like a 4x instead of my 3x (all that was available at the time). |
| I'd wait for that new EOTech g33 to come out in a few months. It looks pretty damn good... has slightly over 3x magnification... flips to the side... quick release. Its about as much as you can really ask for in a magnifier. They have improved the eye relief on it and a few other things like that. I haven't had a chance to look at one yet but they sound good. If you are just going to be plinking around and you consider your rifle a toy, you might not want to spend the extra $$$ but if you are a little more serious about your equipment I would go with something that is a little higher quality. |
