What kind of range will a magnifier extend my red dot to? Having trouble deciding between the comp3, ml2,3 and pro.. Is the pro and comp3 the best choice because of the 2moa? I will eventually follow out up with a magnifier..thanks in advance..its going on a panther ap4a 5.56 and will that mount on the stock rail where the carry handle is?

EOTech is the best for a magnifier because the center dot is .3MOA. That is so small that the dot will look the same behind a 3x magnifier or no magnifier at all.

EOTech says that their center dot is 1MOA, not .3:

"The unique Holographic technology allows the center dot to remain 1 moa in size, while the angular size of the target is magnified."

The magnifier won't extend the range of your red dot––it will only make the target easier to see.

FWIW, I've hit silhouettes out to 500 yards with my T1/magnifier.

Would like to know as well. Thinking of doing a pro and mag

Different folks will have different extended ranges with a magnifier, it would be easier to see targets at further distances for sure.

If you shoot mostly at longer ranges the magnifier would help, myself I mostly shoot at under 200 yd and I tried a magnifier but had not used mine much, but if I ever in rare occasions shoot out further my magnifier is always available in my pack.

The 2 MOA dot size of the Aimpoint PRO and CompM3 are more ideal because of its smaller dot size, but even if 4 MOA dot are not optimum it would still work fine.

The PRO cost less with a battery life of about 3 years and the M3 are a bit more money but have about 5 years battery life, which is more important to you, cost or battery life.

That's not quite accurate. They say "1MOA" because that is the smallest positive light source someone with 20/20 vision can resolve.

This PDF describes the true size of the dot:
http://www.eotech-inc.com/documents/2007%20L3%20EOTech%20brochure.pdf

"Only through the unique optical properties of holography, the aiming dots remain 1MOA in size, regardless of magnification (yet your target has increased in size by nearly 4x)!" (it's not really holography that's responsible, but whatever)

"True point source aiming dot – covers only 1.6 inches at 600m" (in reference to the 557.4XFXD)

There is another PDF somewhere specifically about the 512/552 that gives a precise measurement for the true angular width of their center dot. It comes out to .3MOA. It is just very bright, so it looks like a normal brightness 1MOA dot.
