Just bought my first AR-15. Wondering what kind of sights to put on it. Im thinking red dot with a magnifier. not looking to go out long range or snything but want to be accurate and snipe some small game and paper targets. bought a DPMS A-15. nothing special so obviously not looking for high dollar sights just something that works out to about 200 yds or so.

For the money, it's hard to beat the Aimpoint Pro. I'm assuming you have iron sights on the gun?

Eotech with 3x flip to the side.  The 4x is a waste, its a lot more money and its not really a 4x.  Make sure your red dot and magnifier are the proper heights.

Not trying to be a pessimist or anything, but you should probably try shooting with iron sights for a while first. I was quick to buy a scope for my first AR before I really learned how to use irons. Needless to say, I wound up pulling it off later. If you already know how to shoot irons (even though this is your first AR), disregard this post.

I agree with this! Sometimes we get caught up in the excitement of having a new toy, and try to hang all kinds of crap that we think is needed without actually getting to know what we really need. Shooting irons is pretty fun, and unless you are running tactical drills where fast target acquisition is required, then you don't even need a red dot. That being said, if you just "want" one, and don't want to break the bank, then look at Primary Arms. They have several different offerings for around $100 give, or take, that will serve your needs/wants well.

with 'irons' at 200 yards and PRACTICE you can get under 7-8 inch groups.
I'm currently at 4 1/2" or so at 100 yards standing.. and hoping to get smaller by spring..

a red-dot with 2 moa may do it for you.. but if you want say woodchucks at 200 yards grab a decent and small scope.. Nikon 2-7 comes to mind..

at 200 with my 6x32 cheap scope I get under a 4"x4" card all day long with 40 shot groups from a front bag.

Too open-ended of a question. Please read the FAQs at the top of the page to start with. Thanks.
