What am I missing? The mount that I can resell?? Just depends on what you want. For me, I want to pay less, like $400 for a PRO with a decent mount, versus a C3 for about $430 without a mount. The C3 can be had for less than $400 if you shop around... I was mainly more curious if there was something else major that I wasn't getting out of the differences between the two |

Just a matter of price point & battery life. |

from what I understand C3 is more for sporting and PRO is more for tactical.
I bought my c3 for $400 about 2 years ago and so far its been good. It came with low mount but can't really use that on AR, so had to get Daniel Defense mount for another $100 funny though when I bought mine, it said that c3 is not water proof. just water resistant to 45m. That and night vision, and tougher finish was only different between c3 and m3 when I bought mine. |

I would imagine that if you left the C3 in a car in Arizona in the middle of summer the temperature could get pretty close to the C3s maximum rating.
I wouldn't leave it to chance. Also the PRO is a model that Aimpoint has put out specifically for our Nation's Heroes. Dealers aren't supposed to sell them to non- Military/ Law Enforcement professionals; but some are scrupulous and just don't care. I wouldn't want to take something that was meant for our Heroes who put their lives on the line, for very little pay, so we can enjoy our peace and security....but I'm not everybody. |
|
The only difference that you highlighted that favors the C3 is the battery life, but then again I doubt that a battery itself would consistently last 5 years. The PRO is a FAR better deal.

Some people have no problem taking advantage of program that was intended as a way to honor our heroes. |

You sure are passionate about that. I haven't seen the Military with the PRO model. I have seen the ML3 and the M4, along with Elcans, ACOG's, etc. Not saying they don't exist, but just haven't seen them. I haven't seen any Cops with it either. Could there be a shortage because of the fact that they are considered a high quality, in-demand unit?
To the OP: Nice comparison. I was wondering the difference as well. I'm on the fence between those two Aimpoints and an Eotech. |

I was afraid my statements might offend some of the more sensitive folks out there. I know that many people who have not served their Nation or community still feel that they should be entitled to this promo... I have to disagree with them. |

I normally wouldn't dare post here but - This has absolutely nothing to do with a Swedish company trying to provide cheap optics for American public service employees. It does have everything to do with attempting to not cut civilian sales of their more expensive optics, though. |

It does have everything to do with attempting to not cut civilian sales of their more expensive optics, though. That's an interesting theory, but I will have to disagree. This is another example of what is wrong with America. The sense of entitlement is hurting America at an increasing rate. Rather than say, "that is a great program that Aimpoint of Chantilly, VA is doing for the men and women who serve their country and communities, often for very little pay" Instead they say, "Well I should be entitled to that same discount even though I have contributed nothing to my country or community; I do have a sweet set of multi cam BDUs and I am a master of call of duty, modern warfare" Do these same individuals who have not earned the right to partake in Aimpoint's program also lie at Applebee's on Veteran's day and falsely say that they have served their country so that they can receive a free meal? Do they go stand in line at the VA hospital to receive free medical? OR, do they ask that an American Flag be draped over their casket? Anyway you look at it, these are privileges that have been granted to our nation's veterans and in some cases law enforcement professionals. To try to take advantage of a program that you have not earned is stealing. Have a sense of pride and go out and earn for yourself. Also, there are many more Americans are benefiting from this program than Swedes |

| You know, I'm starting to think that there's been a precipitous drop in the intelligence quotient on this site. "Hero's"; working for "very little pay"? Come on; up here an LEO or Firefighter make a damn good wage. In addition, the pension is terrific. Benefits as well. What the hell are you smoking? What's wrong with this country is that most folks can't think for themselves. And when they do they weaken the nation. |

Plus they get VERY good discounts on anything gun related directly from manufactureres or from stores. |

In so many words the PRO is a M2.5 with a QRP mount. I have heard that they made the pro out of an excess of M2 tubes that they needed to turn over. Not sure how much truth there is to that though.
As for procurement of equipment any military or LEO sales are usually handled by contract - not by going to a website and clicking "add to cart" button. Also, as most departments work, procuring a expensive item usually requires them to gather quotes from multiple sources and pick the lowest bidder. Again, not a "go to botach tactical, add 200 Aimpoint PROs to cart, click go to checkout." I know that solicitations for bids is how my former service worked for anything major, ie uniforms, mechanical, radios, etc. Besides, Aimpoint, Trijicon, et al are more then happy to supply their government contracts first, mainly because they usually charge them full sticker price, and do not give them the discount price like they give their civilian side sales. Thus, they make more profit-per-unit from their government sales, we just get to pick over the left-overs. As for under-payed, varies by municipality and service. I know the city police and fire departments in my area pay very well. A fire captain here can expect to take home in the 100k-120k range, most PD start in the 50k range. With benefits and pension. I'd hardly call those figures "underpaid." |
