Anyone know if there exists a good ACOG clone? Not a red dot shaped like an ACOG.

So far I know AIM Sports makes one as does NCStar.  Sun Optics had made one, but discontinued the product. Reviews were favorable, but must have had a flaw somewhere because they are redesigning the product and should have it on the market sometime before February.

I have family and friends on active duty off the coast of Somalia and in Afghanistan an without any reservation they recommend ACOG.

Buy now, cry now as they say.  If you want something that will last and is tough. If your budget allows, buy the best.

Occasionally they pop up for sale in the EE.  Good deals on most.

I am not an 11B nor any kind of a security guy. I am just a civilian range rat and I have triiied to get by with  El'Cheapo brand optics. Last one I bought was from Sportsmansguide for around $75 ithink. It was a Pentax 4-12x40 with range finder reticle. It was bad yet Good enuff for my 10yr old nephew when mounted on a Ruger 10/22.
But with ACOGs way over a grand I still might try an NCStar.

If anyone trys one let us know how it is.

They're still not worth what you get.

All you are getting with a clone is an inexpensive scope in a scope body that sorta looks like an ACOG, you aren't getting the optics quality or robustness of an ACOG, which is the real point in having one.

There are decent inexpensive fixed power and low power scopes out there, personally I wouldn't worry about whether it kinda looks like an acog.

This i would try a 1-4x scope, i think im going to start saving for one. BTW NCSTAR is for airsoft rifles, ive owned and played with those optics. Most of them dont hold sight. Most break with light pressure. Battery life is like an hour. Normally heavy as shit. Honestly their products arent even high enough quality for airsoft. If you want an inexpensive alternative and get oyur moneys worth check out PA. Im thinking about picking this up

Primary arms 1-4x illuminated scope

Obviously its no ACOG, but if you are punching holes in paper it'll make you happy.

If ACOGs aren't worth it, then what optics are?

Is it because they don't come with a set of batteries?

Acog is a prismatic scope, using a prism in addition to lenses.  It's why it's so short.

The PA 3x is the only other decent prismatic scope I know of

Primary Arms 3x compact

I just got PA 3x compact, and I'm impressed with it so far...

Actually, my experience with Primary Arms is what brought me to this question.  I just bought a PA Compact Red Dot after seeing a YouTube video of a guy dropping and throwing one across a concrete floor. I won't be doing that so I figured it was good enough for my intended purpose.

Trijicon is exceptional because of the way they use fiber optics and night sights to make an optic that is "illuminated" night and day without being tied to a battery.  Genius... but I won't be buying that for this gun.

I will give up illumination for a good, compact prismatic scope at that price point.  I will revisit the PA 3x Compact. Thanks.
