So I have a new Leupold IMS Mark 2 mount for a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x24.  This is going on my Bushmaster AR.

Can the mount straddle the receiver and forward onto the free float rail, or should the mount be only on the receiver?  It's not a monolithic upper, so I'm wondering if there is potential to throw off the optic under recoil if the mount straddles out onto the rail.

The first way allows me to use the BUIS if I ever need to... (never have though).   the second way puts the scope further back and the mount only on the receiver, and does not allow the rear sight to flip up.

Which way is best, or do they both work equally.

Thanks.

Put it on the upper receiver. Do not bridge the receiver and FF rail.

Irons won't work through a magnified optic - including a variable with true 1x. Try it and see.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, so if this is inappropriate just delete. I can't resist given that I *just* purchased the same optic/mount combination online a couple of hours ago, so will be mounting it this coming week. It'll be on my Stag Model 3 in 5.52 bought a couple of weeks ago. My first AR, and after about 200 rounds thru it a heck of a lot of fun to shoot. Bought YHM iron sights and have been using them.

My question is about the much touted "always return to zero" when high quality QR mounts are used and how it relates to the IMS Mark 2 mount. Mainly, why wouldn't any one-piece base, like the Mark 2, hold zero when removed and put back on, assuming that it's in the same slots on the rail (and was zeroed before removal of course)?
