Ok so I have an ORC ar 15 with a low profile gas rail ...I added Irons but was shooting way high..found out its because the front sight is lower than the rear..anyways long story short I moved my front sight back and mounted it on my quad rail..since then dime sized shot groups at 25m in the bullseye..my question is ..is it ok to mount it here or will I run into any problems later on...the rails are sturdy and do not shake at all..

Thanks for your time

I have DPMS Oracle.. and have exactly 12" from post-post on my MBUS setup..  (mounted on the A3 and Carbine Quad)

I compared to my red dot zero'd for 100 yards and got it matched up..

I would try backing up to 50 or 100 yards and see what you get with it..

I'll be running just my MBUS first this Saturday and will try it 100 yards and 200 yards and see what happens..

I think once your ZERO'd it should stay ZERO'd... though others on here will say get a FreeFloat Quad on here..  Lol..

If the quad rail is not a FF your zero will move some.  Maybe not noticeable to you until shooting further out and at small targets.  If your rail is FF, it still may move some but very very little and probably not noticeable as long as you aren't torquing on your gun rested off something while shooting.

If you have a railed gas block there are front sights that are made for the height different to be run off the gas block and usually specified as such.  You may need to adjust your front pin up or down.

Well my quad rails are allen wrenched in with very very little move to them..I have to really yank on em to get them to move even a little..I do plan on buying the sights that mount to the block..in the future..but just want to know if this is a viable way to shoot.

As stated, if it isn't free floating, your zero WILL move.  If an allen set screw backs out, it's back to square one.
Your best bet is to get rid of the front MBUS and get a gas block flip up sight.  Or go FF rail.

I plan on shooting FBI Q (reduced targets) with my  MagPul MBUS set this weekend..

if I can COM them at 100 to maybe 200 I will be happy with my cheapy quad and cheapy MagPul MBUS..

maybe the OP can LOCTITE the screws on his Quad and reduce the chance of SHIFT occurring..

the point is (maybe) for the OP is just the ability to simply shoot center of mass/target out to say 100 or 200 yards..

he's not trying to pick-off a groundhog.. again IMHO..

To the OP.. suggest just shooting a little further..

and just save your pennies for a gas-block BUS or get a simple (Primary Arms maybe red-dot for on top the A3) and be good to go..

if you have that Bushmaster ProPrietary Gas Block up front.. then YES.. you have to get the special front sight... (ughh)

You can use the Midwest Industries Front Flip (for gas block).. Model #   MCTAR-FFG about $70-80..

I have one on my DPMS (308) gasblock and it works GREAT...

On a LOW Budget.. this and some loctite for the screws, works on the gas block height as well..

Leapers UTG MNT-751 is about $25 from Amazon or OpticsPlanet..

Now in the middle $$... for $60 (@ Primary Arms site)  is the Yankee Hill Machine # YHM-9584

Hope this helps..

At 50 yards with my MagPul MBUS with a measly 12" post-post..

I was shooting for the middle... and got the middle..

Then at 100 yards with irons.. I was aiming for the shoot-n-c and got it (though a little high).. figure a 4" group @ 100 yards is GTG..

I was using a FRONT Caldwell green bag with my hand under the handguard supporting the rifle..

but to me this is a GTG setup.

OP.. try it out and see what you get..
