I was shooting this weekend, when I noticed my ARMS #40 was about to fall off. Which is my fault, not the sight. I keep it in folded position so I didn't notice it was coming loose. Honestly, I probably didn't torque the nut down when I first installed it. I rarely use it, even though it is my favorite BUIS.

I found the cross bolt, and the clamp, but I am missing the nut. I am not sure how hard that will be to come by. Any advise in that department will help. I  just emailed ARMS and look forward to their response. I tried finding it with a magnet to no avail.

What is the steel cable looking thing in the picture below? What is it's function? I don't remember seeing it on my ARMS #40, and it isn't present now. I am not sure if something else fell off.

There is this guy in Texas that may have a bunch of ARMS parts.  His name escapes me at the moment.

Well that narrows it down.

Same thing happened to me years ago. Loctite 242 fixed the problem.

I hate to use locktite, I have it on a 9mm AR currently, but I don't know that I want it to stay there.

I might move it to another AR later on.

Just one drop of loctite is needed... dont go crazy...it can still be taken off if needed, just add a little heat.

the cable is used on newer sights precisely to prevent the loss of the nut... I prefer the ones without the cable for clones I am building.

Put the Loctite on the screw, let it completely dry then put the gear on. This method keeps the screw on tight but prevents it from being difficult to remove.

Ahh. Thanks guys.

I will try that when I can aquire the new nut.

I suspect my sight was one of the earlier ones that didn't have the steel cable.

I'm sure ARMs will send you another, probably no charge.

None of my 40s have that wire/cable on them either. I haven't bought a new one in some time though.

ARMS will take care of you, give them a call and let them know what happened.

Just thought I'd mention that I have two of these ARMS #40 backup iron sites. My older one does not have the little retention cable you mentioned, but a new one I just recently bought for one of my rifles does have it. Looks like something they added with a product update at some point.

Welcome to the forum.

That is the same impression I just came under.

they added that cable in the 2006/2007 timeframe

your ARMS BUIS should have come with purple loctite, you can also use blue. blue loctite should be used on any non standard screws on the AR such BUIS, rails, scope mounts, etc.

i had three ARMS #40s and they all came with some weird triangular white vial of purple loctite, maybe they stopped doing it... go with the blue
