I have a pretty bad Astigmatism and I am having problems with my eotech. I have a 512 model made in dec 2010. I have read up on the unclear recticle, and searched this site. So what I am getting at is there a better optic choice for someone with my type of eye sight? I have also looked thru an aimpoint and the dot looked more like a line to me.
I am using this optic on my SBR. Any info would be helpful. |

I love the Idea of the eotech, but it looks like the Eye Of Sauron when I look through it without glasses. My Acog looks great. Truthfully, even a $30.00 Simmons red dot sight looks better than an Eotech. You need to go to a well stocked gun shop and look through all the optics. |
| I have an astigmatism as well and I have started switching everything over from red dots. I can tolerate the 2 MOA aimpoints but I love the accupoint and acog. I am going to run some drills with my Acog this weekend to see the speed difference between dot and cheveron. Some people are going to say Glasses which I have but never wear |

I have astigmatism now as well. Any optic w/an adjustable diopter will correct your astigmatism so that means a decent variable (Burris 1-4x Tac30 if you're on a budget is my suggestion, has a reticle very similar to the Eotech) or the Leupold Tactical Prismatic if you want more ruggedness at a fixed 1x magnification. Here's my range report on the Burris w/reticle pics: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=43&t=335703

Tomac This type of optic generates very few issues for those with an astigmatism, but a diopter sdjustment is a spherical correction and not a cylindrical correction needed to address an astigmatism so is irrelevant to the problem. Of course, most people over 40 benefit from this adjustment, just as reading glasses help clear things up. |

BTW, I read somewhere that adding an ARD to an aimpoint will reduce the dot smearing due to astigmatism.
I didn't know if this was possible. I do know that some shooters put those little aperture dots on their glasses to aid with focusing. So, I bought an ARD and it does not seem to make any difference (other than really reducing the light transmission through the aimpoint). |

Do you have a folding front sight on your SBR? If so, may I suggest that you aim through the rear BUIS apperture (with the front sight folded down, of course). I find that method helps a lot with an Aimpoint - not so sure about EOTech.
Worse for worse, you can always get a Prismatic or if you have $$$ to burn, go with a compact ACOG. I too have a very bad astigmatism, so I feel your pain. Good Luck! |
| I have an astigmatism and an Aimpoint dot looks like a back slash without corrective eye wear. With glasses, the dot looks like a dot but the brightness setting is crucial. Now I'm switching to contacts because glasses are becoming a nuisance but the contacts resolve my astigmatism as well. |
| Thanks for the advise, i think I will have to get prescription shooting glasses if I want to use my eotech. It still is not the clearest as I would hope it to be. I also mounted it as far forward as I could as that seems to help as well plus gives me room if I want to add a magnifier. |
