| I am saving for a new optic and was set on the NF 2.5-10x32 and just noticed the Leupold Mk 4 MR/T 2.5-8. I know that everyone loves NF and Leupold has fallen out of favor but are these 2 scopes that far apart in quality? The Leupold is a few hundred less. Wish I could afford the 1-8 S&B. |

My biggest grip with Leupold is that they don't offer matching turrets (mrad adjustments on a mil-dot scale reticle).
That and the two scopes you are comparing are different top-end powers would make up most of the price difference. Both make quality optics, however when I think bomb-proof scopes; Nightforce comes to mind first (in the <$2000 realm) |
| Leupold does make a 3.5-10 but even then it's not a fair comparison with NF. I do like Loopy and own several, but they're not in the same class as NF, especially in the higher power ranges clarity is VERY apparent. Depends on the budget and uses....I recently finished a DPMS 308 build that I put a Lupe on 'cuz I got a good deal and for what I use it for ( out to 800 yds) I'm not unhappy. |

I had a Mark 4 Leupold but I wasn't ever really impressed with glass quality or the turrets. The Nightforce scopes I have played with have all been awesome though. Leupold was about 4 years too late with their M5 turrets and they still cost too much imho. Yes, four years too late on those and they are still using 1" optics and internals in 30mm tubes...WTF? I mean, come on, this is 2011 and what is it with the 3x zoom range????? Bill |
