If you want a decent magnified optic for a .22 plinker look into a variable power, budget priced scope. You will be much happier in the end. The ACOG clones are not worth it. |

I am building a squirrel gun/plinking gun and would like a powered optic. First thing that came to mind:
No? There's a bunch of these floating around on Gunbroker and EBay for $150 or less. I've heard they work great for rimfire/airsoft rigs. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=217071898 |

I knew that reaction would come sooner or later. I understand what you are saying but i have seen it done by people on this site before. I guess we will see who else drops in on this... |

If you want one like this, don't let those guys on Gunbroker(the ones that sell this kind of stuff) rip you off. That is an EA scope Part# EA-SC-125 You can get the same scope here for $71 free shipping http://www.ebairsoft.com/gl540-tactical-scope-black-p-2999.html Or here for $68 plus shipping ... http://www.scopeandlaser.com/index.php?sp=&p=6&cat2=0&cat1=125&cat0=46&id=10847&cat1=125&cat0=46&new=&more=&s=2c074949796174b0d656e912ea017da9&lang=en Or here for $60 plus shipping (my nephew says they have the best service) ,... http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/accessories/scopes-red-dots/scopes/ea-4x32-tactical-qd-scope-gl540.html IF you want to stick with a replica of the ACOG, my nephew let me mount this one to my M4 (links below), also made my EA...and I gotta tell you, for the money, I was surprised. Optics weren't horible, the optic edges where it transitions to "black" are fuzzy compared to a real ACOG, but not really in the actual sight FOV, and I did not try to confirm it would hold Zero repeatedly on my M4, but it would sight in perfectly. Oh, of course don't expect any Tritum or optic illumination, they don't copy them that good. :-) Here is the version he has on his airsoft thingy.. It comes with the "Docter red Dot replica" on top., cost is $110 - http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/accessories/scopes-red-dots/scopes/ea-4x32-acog-scope-with-doctor-red-dot-sight.html And the same version without the Docter Replica for $63 - http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/accessories/scopes-red-dots/scopes/ea-4x32-acog-scope-w-20mm-10mm-mount-base-mil-dot.html FWIW, other than the "quilt' factor, I wouldn't hesitate to use one of those on a 22LR plinker. Also IF you are going that route get the one with the Docter Replica Mini Red Dot, it appears to work well and even parallax free except for the extreme outer edges, and is basically the same thing (if not exactly the same) as far as I can tell from the $139+ version sold by a sponsor here.. FWIW, this is an opinion based on actual usage of both. That being said I still forked $1000+ for the real thing for my M4, and would and will do so again. ...but I surely wouldn't do it for a 22LR plinker :-) |

Were you interested in purchasing an ACOG type or an ACOG clone scope? I bought an Airsoft ACOG with the piggyback Docter for around $160 (three years ago) from a Chinese site which has held zero through at least 3000 rounds of 223 between several ARs. It is basically a nsn model without illumination. It holds zero and aside from me smashing the Docter's lens (which still works), has held up remarkably well with only the finish rubbing in areas. The glass is very good as well and I can't discern a big difference when compared to my ta31m150.
I can IM you the link if interested. I think there is also a video of someone placing one of these sights on a .50 and finding that it held up. |
