Hello all,
I got a friend looking for a Acog scope for his AR. because they are so expensive he wants to make sure he get the right one and he doesn't know alot about them so I told him I would ask here because I know the members here are very knowledgeable. He's looking to get one for a AR with a 16 inch barrel / Flat top. The other one is a M4 with a 14 Inch barrel with a fixed carrying handle. We were looking at the Trijicon TA 11. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Geee...a grand seems like a lot to be willing to drop right out of the gate. Ur friend may be better served by getting some thing cheaper to try and find out what he wants/needs. Like Primary Arms ? It's not Acog, but it has good reputations for bang for your buck.
The other thing you WILL be asked is : "what r u going to use it for "... It's not what type of rifle you have, but what you are going to use it for that will dictate types of scope. OK ....the real experts can hack at him now. k |
| Have a TA01 carry handled on an old Colt HBAR. Really enjoy that setup. 3 TA11s: AR in 6.8 on carryhandle, AR in 5.56 on rail, and Aug A3 on rail. Best magnified optics I own. Eye relief is the reason i ended up with 3 of them. Also have a TA648 on my M1A - the most difficult one to get happy about but i attribute that to my M1A mount and traditional stock which created head position issues. Resolved with a troy mcs which can double as a boat anchor. |

03DesignGroups's Acog Considerations is a good read.
I am also looking for one and just got my hands on my first one this past week, a TA31F and wow was that eye relief short. |

I have a TA31F and it's a great optic, the only downside as others have stated is the short eye relief.
With scopes at this price range, I would strongly suggest handling them beforehand if possible. If I was going to get another one, I'd get either a TA33R8 or a TA31H-G. |

what would you recommend for a A4 clone? TA31RCO-A4 Man I would love to get that but its more than the rifle. Guess I will stick withh irons for now I found one like new in the box with all papers for $950 shipped in the EE. Dont let MSRP prices scare you away. There are deals out there. |

I've owned TA-11, TA31 and TA33 series ACOGs. I think the TA33 is probably the ACOG 80-90% of rifle owners should have on their gun. TA-11's are just frikken huge and don't offer much magnification-I'm sure they are great on a belt fed. The TA33 was like watching a movie screen and the red reticle sucked-in the daytime my eye wanted to follow it rather than look at the target area and at night it was too dim to be useful. A TA31 in Amber or Green would be pretty good if you don't mind a shorter eye relief-I don't remember it being a real problem for me though.
So anyway, TA33-8. It's only 3x so CQB shooting doesn't suffer much and the BDC reticle goes out to 600 meters which is as far as anyone can reasonably want to shoot a 16" carbine with military ball ammo. Eye relief is really good on this model and you can get the reticle in a Chevron or a dot in a horseshoe. I'd pick the latter, especially if you wear glasses or your eyes get blurry when you get tired. The tip of the chevron will "grow" when it gets blurry and you'll be a few MOA off and shoot low. |
| I have the TA11J-RMR on my Colt 6920...I love it...the eye relief is great and I actually prefer the larger scope size compared to the shorter 4x32. I would definately recommend shooting all the models you can before buying, it's a lot of money to regret your choice later. |

Ebay was running some sort of discount so I got $100 off. Just wait for a good deal. From everything I've read Trijicon will take care of you even if you are not the original owner. Just about all of my optics setups cost more than the rifle. Good optics cost money but I would rather have something that is dependable, plus the resale value is usually good. I had a TA01ECOS that I traded toward another scope. The dealer gave me $50 under what I originally paid for it. Not too bad for a used optic. I still have my TA31ECOS that I bought at the same time as the TA01ECOS and they go for about $400 more brand new than what I paid at the time. |
