Hello all,
I'm pretty much sold on a vortex pst 1-4x as my optic to give me the capability to reach out to 400 yards but still clear rooms. My question is how effective is it for clearing rooms. One advantage of an aimpoint from what I've read is that it is parallax free allowing you to hit targets no matter what cheek weld you have. I noticed that the pst does have a parallax to it does that mean that it would be more difficult to engage multiple close range targets with it even on the 1x power setting? |

I don't have an experience with the Vortex, but I have a weaver v3 1-3 scope, and the low end magnification is about the same.
I can personally clear a room no problem with a 1-?x scope. However, anything more than 1.1(which is most likely what the Vortex is anyway) gives me motion sickness when I try to clear a room with it. I've tried with a 1.25 and a 1.5, both left me dizzy (I'm a big wuss though). I can see eye relief and parallax being a problem when you're going into non-standard positions, but for 95% of the shoot you'll do, a 1x should be fine. ETA: Take 3-gun shooters for example. Most of them use 1-?x optics and they shoot a variety of targets from 5 yards out to 400. |
| Got one of these a couple weeks back. In regards to your question, this pst would likely serve you well, it has ultra forgiving eye relief and the illumination goes more than bright enough for indoor utilization. The reticle grabs the attention of your eye, and it doesn't blurt out what you are aiming at like alot of reticles do (horseshoe/circle-dots/etc). I don't feel that anything can trump an eotech for that task, however, having magnification/ranging/dialing capabilites makes it alot more versatile, imo. |
