Does anyone out there have any experience using an AP Micro on a carry handle mount?. Thinking about an R-1 on a 6520.
Would it be useable enuff in that config that you could tell if the AP works for you before adding a Larue mount to the budget? Somebody posted a few pics a month or so ago of a similar setup. |

I have experimented on that set up and yes, it works. Maybe it is "less than ideal", but it still works great. You do need to figure out your POA / POI aim for different distances, though. That is because the optic is mounted higher. But that is not hard to do and that's what makes it fun. Zero at 50 yards, then find out where the POA / POI will be in distances between 0 to 50 and then between 50 to 100 yards and if you had the facility, from 100 to 200 yards. Trust me, it will be a very good learning and very fun experience - you'll get to know your 6520 and love it even more.
My set up was the T-1 on top of ARMS #2 mount and I also used a gooseneck mount (ARMS #39) for absolute co-witness with the T-1. Beware that you need a riser if you wanted to use the ARMS #39 mount for the T-1 (I used 1/4" Eotech riser from YHM). If you installed the T-1 on top of the carry handle, although the T-1 is situated relatively high above the bore, shooting from the prone can still be fairly comfortable: I did not have a sore neck even after a prolonged shooting from the prone. ETA: you'll get used to the less than ideal cheek weld, mainly if the purpose of the carbine is for runnin' and gunnin' (you can still punch tight holes on paper - trust me been there done that; should have saved my targets for the nay sayers). I hope this helps somehow. PS - I recommend that you avoid the KZ carry handle mount that you find at Botach. The reason being is that the KZ mount does not have the integral recoil lug, unlike other Aimpoint mounts that are made by reputable manufacturer. Basically, if you're using the KZ mount, the four tiny screws will bear the burden of the recoil. Granted that a T-1 weighs only a few ounces, but still, having the integral recoil lug on the mount is necessarry for a defensive carbine, IMHO |
