I purchased an m&p15 a while back and its the optics ready model. My plan is to put an aimpoint m4 on it but its my understanding this is to be used with a front site as well? Im new to rifles so im not too familiar. So now im looking to get a set of sites and then get my red dot in a few months. The rifle has a picatinny rail on the front gas block that is even with the rail on the body. What sites are compatible with this arrangement?

First, you don't need any iron sights to use the red dot.
If you want to use irons, you need a gas block height specific front sight as it will need to be taller than the quad rail mounted ones.
Troy makes good rear sights. Magpul MBUS is also a good rear sight.
Midwest makes a good gas block height folding front sight

ETA: just looked at the MP15 OR and it looks like the gas block rail is the same height as the upper receiver rail (like you said in the OP).  In that case, any metal flip up sight will work. If you like the fixed look, LMT and Daniel defense make a good fixed front sight.
You really can't go wrong with a set of Troy BUIS.

Just don't put the Magpul MBUS on the gas block...it may get too hot and melt it.

Any thoughts on the red dot? i was looking at the eotec but im unsure which model? the aimpoint m4s seems to be the model of choice in the aimpoints.

I have an ML2 and an M4S. Both are great sights. The M4S is on the bulky side, but is built like a tank and has an amazing battery life measured in years.

I also like the T1. It's very light and compact. Rugged as well, but has a smaller field of view which I've not found to be a problem.

Depends on whether you want an NVG compatible one and how much you are willing to spend.
