There are some good deals on the discontinued Aimpoint R1 micro red dot. I was interested in some feedback on this unit for my first red dot purchase to go on my first carbine lenght AR purchase. The red dot can be had for $300. Does anyone have this unit or one of their other micro red dots? Would I need any other mount to make it cowitness with my fixed front sight?
Aimpoint Micro R-1 Red Dot Sight 4 MOA with Weaver-Style Mount Silver 13 brightness settings Super-compact design, weighs less than 4 oz Waterproof to 15 feet Windage and elevation adjustable Unlimited eye relief Runs on one CR2032 3v battery (not included) |

To my knowledge that unit, the R-1 is identical to the H-1 except for the finish. It's probably discounted solely for that reason. Nobody wants a silver (shiny and bright) optic. They probably aren't selling well. The Aimpoint name is good as gold. Buy with confidence.
It will end up being a $302 quality red dot after you spray paint it. |
Looks the same to me too. Here's the link to Midway , on sale $300 Link

Would I need any other mount to make it cowitness with my fixed front sight? Aside from the R-1 coming with a weaver mount (NOT Picatinny) you will need another mount to co-witness. I have an ADM SOCOM mount for mine. Larue, Daniel Defense and KZ also make mounts. |
