Hi,
I am new to the Black Rifle. I have recently purchased a Stag Model 3 (Flat Top) and am interested in purchasing BUIS for it. In talking with the people at STAG I have been told that the Gas Block rail height is .250" lower than the receiver rail height. So here is my question. I am interested in both the Midwest Industries Gas Block Height BUIS and the Troy Industries Gas Block Height BUIS. Midwest Industries Gas Block BUIS is .200" taller than the standard. Troy Industries Gas Block BUIS is .298" taller than standard. Since neither match exactly the .250" difference between rails on my rifle which of these BUIS will work best as far as adjusting and sighting in. Thanks, twofish |

There are front sights that are made for mounting on gas blocks of the type you're discussing. I think YHM, GGG, and MI make such sights (ARMS might, too)––these are guesses off the top of my head. You can use any rear sight.
I would stick with models that are designed for the gas block as they will be appropriately sized for the use at hand. |
| I feel your pain. There isn't any standards for gas blocks or front BUIS. The varibles between gas blocks and sights makes it difficult. If you by a set of BUIS from the same manufacturer with the front designed for a gas block you should be ok. The worst case is you might have to change the front post. Most sights seem to be made for rail mounting. I recently changed my gas block to a YHM gas block with flip up sight. They have a good selection. You might also be able to use a 3 slot riser block and use a rail mount sight. |

Thanks for your input. I just want to make the best decision I can regarding beign able to correctly adjust for a good sight picture with the BUIS.
I still think starting out with both the sights as close as possible to the same plane (ie. finding a front sight that is .250 taller than the rear like my rifle is) would be the best solution. Beyond that I guess maybe going with a little shorter front sight and raising the post would provide the most flexibility for longer shots. Thanks again and any more thoughts are welcome. twofish |

take a look at the UTP front gas block front sight. it's not he greatest.. but it maybe the right size.. but i feel you as well.
you should just replace the damn gas block wtih YHM gas block flip up sight for 70bucks. Quoted:

Thanks, twofish Not knowing it you answered your own question.. Go with the Troy Buis and use a standard A2 Front Sight Post. Thre reason Troy builds the Front Sight buis to that height is so that it is the same height as a standard "F" Marked Front Sight. Many Front Sight Buis requie an Extended A2 Front Sight Post with a 0.040" longer post. Call/email Troy with this question. |
