My question specifically concerns mounting a Nightforce 1-4x on an N4 Light Recce. I'm trying to decide between the La Rue LT-135 versus the standard LT-104. The LT-135 raises the optic an additional 1.93" above the bore. While this was initially devised to clear a PEQ (as per La Rue's website), I've read reports that it also provides for a much quicker "flash" type RDS sight picture at 1x than the LT-104 (b/c you do not have to get your head so far down on the stock). Conversely, the cheek weld with the LT-135 is not as good. IF one was more concerned with maximizing the effectiveness of a 1-4x at CQB distances, this seems like an appropriate tradeoff.
What do y'all think? Anyone running a 1-4x in a LT-135? I welcome any thoughts/experiences. |
| I moved from the LT-104 to the ADM-H (1.93) mount and I much prefer the 1.93" height. Not only does it allow you to have a better heads-up view, it is more comfortable to shoot in prone as I don't have to crane my neck as much. I also ran the ballistics numbers for the differences between 1.5" and 1.93" and they are minimal. |

Quoted: TopGun and SuperSet72....can you offer any comments on the cheek weld? How high are we talking? Can you get a decent cheek weld or are you relegated to the bottom of jaw? My thanks to all for the comments. It's a tad higher than a Larue Aimpoint mount. Maybe a half inch difference in cheek weld from the LT104. No jaw weld required. |

As topgunpilot mentioned, a jaw or chin weld is only needed when shooting something like a Compact ACOG on top of carry handle. That setup has something like 3.5" height over bore!
Maybe something visual would help. Sorry, I don't have a still picture but you can get a sense of cheek weld here about 1:30 in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTB65bh-tEM Hope that helps. |
