Hello
I am pretty new to the AR-15. Just bought my first one yesterday and took it out for a test drive today.
My question is about optics. I have been reading here about the Aimpoint and the EO Tech, and they both look great and if I had unlimited funds I would probably get one. However being brand new to the AR-15 I'm just not sure I want to drop $500 - $750 on my new toy.
So my question is what do people think of the Primary Arms red dot sights? Specifically the M4 style or the Micro dot sights? I realize they may not be quite as good as the Aimpoint, but do they work and will they hold up? I doubt I will be taking this in any desert or extreme conditions. Probably use it for range or target shooting. Maybe hunting someday. Would appreciate any opinions. Any other recommendations in that price range?

Second question, Does anybody have an opinion on the Troy back up folding sight vs. the Magpul? Again, not going to be in any extreme conditions. Troy are metal and Magpul are plastic and less expensive. any reason to get the more expensive?

Thanks in advance!

Don't skimp on a Red Dot. Get an Aimpoint or Eoteck.

Normally I answer these questions, however this time I will not. Spend a couple weeks/months reading the info on this site. There is lots of information here, and it will answer your questions over and over again. After a few months of reading then post a question.

I agree that you should do your own research and come to your own decision, but I will say this:  if you like the idea of an Aimpoint or Eoturd, then eventually you will have to get one and the money spent on a budget optic is wasted.  If you plan on keeping a budget optic for the life of the rifle, or for a fairly long time, go for it.

OP-
Look at the info in these threads-

There's enough info in there to make a decision. Also use the search function.

As far as the sights, well both work. Whatever you want to spend is your decision. Personally If I had a nice Aimpoint or ACOG or quality scope I would get the cheaper sights since I'm less likely to use them.
