OK, Have a AR with removable carry handle. Got $300 to spend but let me explain what happend at range. I have a Simmons scope that came on my 30-30. I took the simmons off. Mounted it on the AR the other day just to play around. Carry handle off. Mounted scope. All shots way down and way left. Adjusted scope so far to try to zero at 50 yards. I could not get to zero. best was 6" off down and left. Scope had no more to give. Is this mainly because its a crappy Simmons or what ?

I was DEAD on when I adjusted the iron sights . I want to get a scope. Do I need not to worry about front sight being in the way ? I didn't notice it was a problem with the Simmons. Is it possible that even though I could not see the front sight in the scope, The scope could not zero because I needed to mount the scope higher ?

Can I just get a carry handle scope mount ? are they reliable ?

a scope should zero regardless of being on the flat top or mounted on the carry handle via carry handle mount.

The problem was likely the scope.  Do yourself a favor and buy a one piece cantilever mount.  Most of them are 1.5" to center which is the ideal height.
