I have a RRA 16” A4 Varmint that I want to scope with a Nikon M223 or Leupold Mark AR but I also want to put a Troy BUIS on it.  I’m not really sure how to go about this.  I’m thinking about buying a LaRue tactical SPR/M4 scope mount (Quick Detach) so I can just remove the scope and mount when I want to use the BUIS but I’d really like to find a way to use both without removing the scope.  The only solution I can come up with is something like the Warne R.A.M.P. mount which would allow me to put the Troy at a 45 degree angle next to the scope http://www.warnescopemounts.com/ramp_mount.html .   Then I’d have to find a way to mount the front sight at the same angle.  Sure appreciate some guidance from you AR pros out there.  I’m new to multiple sight setups on the AR and I don’t want to make the wrong decision and waste a bunch of money.  I suspect there may be a better way of doing this but I don’t know what that would be.    Thanks for your help.

Are you wanting to mount a buis simply for a backup?  There is a better chance of the rifle failing than the day scope failing.  I wouldn't worry about the buis with the day scope.

I'm going to be mounting either a 3 x 9 or 3 x 12 for longer range precision shooting (relatively speaking) so I wanted the BUIS for fast target acquisition at shorter range.  Are you saying to just pull the scope off when I want to shoot at shorter ranges?

Are you setting up a three gun rifle?  Something where you want to use the sights up close and scope further out?

Sounds like you want the best of both worlds, nothing wrong with that.  You can mount the front and rear sights on 45 degree mounts.  It will take training to get proficient with them but it will work.

That's exactly what I want - just not sure about the best way to get it done.  I don't particularly like the idea of taking the scope off when I want to shoot irons but other than the 45 degree mount, I don't see another way.  You agree?

Here's a picture of another members rifle.  The one on the left has the set up your talking about.  Member is ReflectionsBurn, send him an IM and he can tell you how he set it up and how well it works.

I appreciate this info.   I just bought a flat top s/w optical ready and love iron sight shooting.  Have an old scope on it for testing to see what i like and want to do long term.  Is my first ar15.   been on battle rifles forever.

This link is something I could do.   http://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=JPSRTS

At first glance it looks silly but it would not be hard to train up to use this quickly and with accuracy relative to product.   Dont think i can do long range iron sight shooting with it but will be good for close quarters.
