Anyone have any recommendations on a solid sight for under $250-200for my AR?  I like that Burris Fastfire but I've heard about it not holding zero with higher caliber firearms.  Any thoughts?  thanks.

You get what you pay for. If you want an optic that will hold a zero under a lot of recoil, then you'll probably have to pay for quality. Buy used if you have to.

I'm sure several people will be along shortly to tell you how their $50 optic holds zero all day long on their .50BMG . . .

I recommend the SPARC $200 comes with a 2 power screw in magnifier and 3 different height mounts.  And if it breaks or you want a new one just smash it and send it in.  Their warranty is the best in the industry, doesnt even matter if you bought it from someone else.  Or if you looking for cheaper and bigger at the same time, the STRIKEFIRE it has different dot color options.  Basically you will never be without an optic because Vortex will make it right.

I've got 3 FastFireII's and all hold zero just fine.  One on an AR in 5.56, one on an AR in 6.8SPC and one on my 12 gauge turkey shotgun.  If it can hold zero on a 12g I don't see why it won't hold on just about anything.  I've also had one mounted on a Marlin 336 in 30-30 and did just fine there too.  Don't be afraid to try one out.

Stretch to a C-More, or jump up to an Aimpoint or EOTech. Cheap optics = won't hold zero.

An old Aimpoint ML2 or even an older C-series Aimpoint should be good.

I have no experience with the Vortex optics, but from what I hear they are built to a lot higher quality than the normal "Asian manufacture" red-dot sights.

If you're really stuck in the $200 +/- price range, head on over to Primary Arms and pick what you like.  Best "bang for the buck", unbeatable customer service, stands behind his products 100% and ships yesterday.  I've got a T-1 mini and it's rock-solid.

I'd either spend $150 less or $100 more to be honest, or try to find a top-tier sight used. $250 you are only $100 shy of some EOTech and Aimpoint models new if you look around:

EOTech 512, $359: http://www.red-dot-scopes.com/eotech-holosight-512-red-dot-scope-aa-battery-non-night-vision-compatible.html
Aimpoint C3, $369: http://www.primaryarms.com/product.sc?productId=569&categoryId=128

If you aren't getting a premium sight, Primary Arms is probably the best value. This way you can get something now, and you won't have wasted much money if you later get a premium sight:

Primary Arms Micro Dot, $79: http://www.primaryarms.com/product.sc?productId=402&categoryId=128

I've been thinking about giving the Lucid HD7 a try - reviews have been pretty good so far.

thanks for the responses.  I'll look into those red dots mentioned.  Yeah, I know my price isn't far from an eotech or aimpoint but those seem too bulky to me.  I have a red dot of similar size and b/c of its size it blocks alot of whats going on downrange outside of the target.  Blocks my peripheral vision.  thanks again.
