| I found what looks like a pretty good deal but I'm not sure. Its a night vision optic. Its a Gen 1 version, and its like $160. How good is gen 1 NV? Does this sound like something I should get to have some night vision capability or should I save up and get a better one? Thanks for any suggestions. |

In my experience, quality day optics with above average EP's work better in reduced light than Gen1.
Decent NV isn't inexpensive, so I would recommend saving your pennies. The trend that I have noticed is that folks who are serious enough to save up for Gen2 eventually end up with Gen3. You might want to check out the NV forum . Be forewarned that there isn't much love for Gen1 over there, not because the regulars are snobs, but rather because they know the difference. |

Thanks alot guys. Gen 3 it is then, Just have to wait a little longer. Oh and thanks for the heads up about the NV forum. The hive would've tore me apart if I would've just bought the crappy gen 1 and then went in there all braggin' on it. ![]() Why do you care what other people think of your gear? It's YOUR gear, get what works for YOU. What are you intending to use night vision for? Do you need gen 3? Night vision is a very valuable tool under certain circumstances. Don't buy what other people want you to buy, buy what fits your needs. |

Might get better answers on the night vision forum.

| I really don't care much for what other people THINK of me or my gear, its just I have no exp. with any night vision and was wondering how good of a tool gen 1 is. I want one that works well for my needs and according to these people who seem to have some exp., the gen 1 doesn't sound like something that would fit my criteria. Let alone waste $160 clams on something incapable of fulfilling those needs. I'm gonna check the NV page. Thanks again. |
