Folks, please educate me on Leapers scopes.
My sister bought her husband a nice litttle Ruger 10-22 and it appears as though whoever sold it to her (new last Christmas) recommended a leapers scope. I helped him zero it last weekend and was not too impressed |

Leapers makes poop and leapers makes ok scopes. I have seen fairly decent scopes and I have seen total junk. They are a Chinese manufacturer who is also an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) They will make gear as per your instructions and slap your name on it. Sig, Bursa, Berska are make in Leapers owned factories. there are others too. If ANY scope has a "made in china" sticker, there is a good chance it was made by Leapers. Leapers owns UTG (Under the Gun). An Airsoft gear company. |
| I've owned two...both came on airguns as package deals...the one (a 3-9 variable) on a high powered springer total POS, won't hold zero for more than five or so shots, one of adjustment knobs doesn't work well, get the ideal....the other is a 6X fixed power compact model mounted on a PCP airgun, so far this one has functioned much better, no real complaints. Some of the airgunners I've talked to say the higher end models are better, but once you get in the $200+/- range your options of scopes increase significantly. I recently purchased a Bushnell Banner 4-12X40AO scope on sale for less than $100 delieverd as a replacement for the 6X. If you wanted to try a Leapers you might be ok, some models appear to be better than others especially the higher end stuff, but buyer beware. |
| I have a 4-16 Illum Reticle that came as part of a package. Scope is heavy and glass is marginal. Illum works fine actually. I have shot some sub 3/4" groups with it on a 6.8 and it holds zero. Tomorrow it goes out the door on a.....package deal. The new cost of the scope and rings was around $175 or so to the original purchaser. I would take that $$ and shop around for something used if that was my budget. |

Vary from total crap to OK for range use. The problem with Leapers is you can't tell. Even the same model scope will vary greatly in quality of glass and mechanics. If you want dirt cheap scopes, buy them from Wal-Mart or another huge retailer with a good return policy. Take it out and use it before the return period is up. |

Junk, but with that said, they make just about the BEST .22LR 3/8" - 11mm dovetail scope mount on the market. It is a heavy, brutish thing, but it gets the job done, especially on some of the poorly machined .22LR dovetails that are out there. (I'm looking at YOU Marlin |

I have not been too impressed, some of their stuff can be ok, but a lot is pretty junky. This problem is that QC is very relaxed, so you may be paying half as much, but only half their scopes are actually built to proper spec, so really you aren't likely to come out ahead in the long run. You'd be better off with a decent wal-mart scope, then at least you can keep swapping them out until you get a keeper.
BTW, leapers makes the centerpoint scopes for wal-mart. |

I have an Accushot SWAT with side focus etc... not bad... I run it on the dedicated AR/22 conv.
but I would buy a better scope for an AR/.223 I also had a very old (16 yrs old) Tasco Hi-Country 4 - 24 x 40 on my Savage 112... amazing scope for the day, but they don't make them like that anymore. Leopold.. Burris.. decent glass out there these days without blowing big coin on S&B class glass. shop around, save your nickles and get good better glass.. you will be glad you did. |
