I've been looking at getting an EOtech and was wandering between the 517 and the 512. I don't need the NVG and want a AA unit but can't decide on which one to get.

P.S. Before the flame war starts, I don't care to hear anything about aim point

Love the few 512s I have.  Can't wait to get an XPS2 tho.

Aimpoint!

I have an EOTech 512 and a CompML3. The ML3 is very simple (4 MOA red dot) but it has much better electronics than the EOTech. My EOTech drains batteries big time (even in storage). The 1 MOA center dot is nice in theory, but I actually had trouble finding it at the range at certain targets. I have to use the 65 MOA ring to help guide my eyes.

Get the 517 because it has the built in 7mm riser to give you a lower 1/3 co-witness.   Otherwise you will get sick of having your BUIS blocking your field of view when flipped up and have to go out and buy yourself a riser for $60-100.

I have two 517s and they are rock solid, and they give you the brightness/power buttons on the side of the unit.  The 512 has the brightness/power buttons on the rear of the optic and that gets in the way of your rear sight and/or magnifier.
