I am looking for a scope to mount on an A2 carry handle for a 7.62X39 AR I built. My 55 year old eyes just can't keep a clear picture of targets at 100 yds anymore. Looking for something that will help with me  to see a little clearer. I am looking inexpensive but all I am seeing for a compact scope are Leapers, NC Star and Barska. I wanted something that will hold up and offer good clear optics. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Ken

If it were me, I would change out your upper for an A4. If you've never shot optics on a carry handle, you are in for nightmarish trajectories. When I finally got mine on at 100 yards, it was off paper at 50 yards . The height over bore is just too much, and I won't even go into trying to get a cheek weld on something that high. Not to mention, the screw that holds the mount can come loose due to recoil.

However, if this is your only option, the one on the bottom is what I used. Good luck.

i mounted a acog on the carry handle and worked fine but the acog cost 839.00

hey how do you like the 7.62x39...
like the poster said before
check on a A3 upper in the EE for a better scope solution

or you can try a setup like they had in vietnam era,
Colt made a scope for the carry handle 4 x

this link would be a copy like the Colt was plus if it didn't work out send it back

I'll try an inexpensive optic first then look into changing uppers. i have the mount already, just need a scope to put on it. I'll try the BSA look alike or the primary arms scope and see how that performs.

I love the 7.62x39, it has the feel of authority when shooting it after shooting 223. I was lucky and still have close to 5K of Lapua and Sako 7.62X39 and the ammo is very accurate plus brass cased. Once I can scope this rifle I will be able to see how well it really shoots. For paper punching the 7.62x39 ammo is cheap to shoot with good accuracy. I have had issues with Wolf ammo and deep set primers but other brands were fine(golden/brown bear).

Thanks, Ken

BCM has uppers for about $88. If you used a Cantilever mount (like the first one in the link I gave), it would have a much lower height over bore and have a much more acceptable trajectory.

I have a Barska on my carry handle and I am not impressed.  Optics are not that great.  It will do until I can change out to a flat top....  Glad to hear you like the 7.62X39.  I have one under construction right now.

Good timing, a friend was talking me into a Barska. I have a Model 1 Sales A2 rifle from a kit, had issues with wolf military classic ammo, everything else goes boom. I did replace the bolt with an AR Performance super bolt, still issues with wolf military classic.
I just received a 16" A4 complete upper from AR Performance this week and tried it out this morning, not a hiccup, eats the wolf and golden bear. I put a 3X9X40 Nikon pro-staff on that for now, really nice clear optics. I just function tested the rifle today.
I don't have tools to change out uppers but I could get them. The rifle will be a strictly 100 yd shooter so once it's sighted in I should be good.

Compact ACOG is the only way to go.

I just bought a Burris Timberline 3-9x32 for my A2.  It is very clear and bright.  I haven't mounted it yet.  I need rings.  Try SWFA, they have it on sale for $119.95.  Everywhere else it's $189.00.  I tried the NcStar Mk III and sent it back.  Clear optics, crappy mount.

I went with the Burris 3X9. Submitted the order, will mount and try out as soon as scope arrives.

Thanks, Ken
