As I mentioned in my other topic, I want to use irons. However I also plan to set up the AR with a scope and came across the see-thru risers. Allows you to use both irons and scope. Anyone have any experience with these?
My only concern is will the cheek weld be negatively affected?? thanks |

I have only seen see through scope mounts on A2 carry handles.
Personally I mount my scopes so they cowitness with BUIS. That way the same head position works for both. If I wanted to switch between sight types I would get a quick disconnect RTZ mount, for me that scope is not coming off unless it gets broken. There are a lot of possible configurations, I guess if you have a fixed FS you could raise up the scope, but that would seem to make for an awkward head position without a cheek rest, which would need to be removed to use the iron sights. |

Unless you can find a scope with a long enough eye relief that you can mount it in front of the rear sight, the only way you're going to be able to use both is to find a scope mount that sits high enough to clear the sight. If you do that, then you'll have more of a chin weld than a cheek weld when you use the scope. Even if you can find a long eye relief scope, you might find that having the rear sight always in line with it makes the image a little too cluttered. I'd think hard about using a QD mount of some kind on the scope. A good one will come right back to zero when you re-mount it after taking it off. How practical that is probably depends on how often you intend to use the scope. There are long eye relief scopes available, mainly for mounting on handguns. I don't know if there are any "tactical" scopes with LER or not. |

well that's where I am confused. All the scopes I have seen mounted prevent the BUIS from being deployed b/c teh eye relief requires the rear of the scope to be almost over the latch, thus over the BUIS Yes I would have to pop the scope off to use the BUIS. I don’t consider this a problem because I think it has been shown that optical assist is the speed of life these days. |
