I have 20/20 vision and every red dot scope I've looked through so far has displayed a defracted reticle. These are new sights and I've tried three different brands. The only way I can get the reticle to be sharp is if I squint really hard or view it through my Magpul BUIS.

Am I doing something wrong with the sight? Is this normal? Is it my eyes? (I've never worn glasses and have never had vision problems of any kind *knock on wood*) My sight is placed on the front most rail slot, right above the magazine for an AR-15. Any answers would be helpful?

I have heard that an astigmatism can make the red dots go a little wonky.  I have actually seen it when I have eye strain.

By the way when did you last have your eyes checked?  Eye sight changes for most ppl.

Does the dot get significantly clearer if you were to view it through the rear aperture? I have astigmatism and most aren't too bad but they are noticeably cleaner when viewed in that manner.

The dot gets much clearer when I view it through the rear aperture.

Since you've had issues with all different types you might want to see an optometrist, make sure you tell them why you're there. Most can work with you better if they know what you're trying to focus on. Maybe bring your preferred red-dot too. The receptionist might give you a but the docs are generally pretty cool about it.

ETA: What brands are you using? Off-brands and low-priced dots generally don't have super clean diodes like an Aimpoint or something higher-end.

I've tried these three brands (all $100+ so they're not too low-end):
Bushnell Tactical Elite 1x32 Red/Green T-Dot Riflescope
Vortex StrikeFire Red Dot Rifle Scope
Primary Arms M4 Red Dot

It's just for my plinking AR so nothing overkill.

Great idea on bringing the sight in with me. I'll definitely bring it along just in case.
