I had two EOT's at one time, 512's, and sold them both three years ago....got into Aimpoints, which I really like. I am considering another EOT and I have heard some negatives about them as far as circuitry and other issues, can you suggest to me which models are the current hot ones or the models I should be looking at. I never had an issue with the 512's I had before other than not so good battery life.
Any help and comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, 77 |

+1.
I've been running an issue 553 in 'stan for several years...no problems other than bat life...but if you compare the Eo's ring and dot (which I vastly prefer to dot only) to the Aimpoint's dot I guess it's easy to see where the power goes. Hey, it turns itself off if you leave it on! |

The XPS/EXPS series has been designed to be more reliable and offer better battery life (from a single CR123 battery). This. I use the 517 instead of the XPS/EXPS only because I prefer AA batteries. I personally have never experienced some of the other reported Eotech problems (excessive battery drain when off, sudden shutdown requiring battery removal to "reset" the circuitry, etc). |
| I have been using a 557 for about 3 months now. I am still running the original batteries that I put in it (energizer lithium). I really like the 557 as it has the bullet drop compensation built in. If you look at one you may want to consider a magnifier of some sort as well. The big plus for this model was the fact that it took AA batteries...they are cheap and can be found anywhere. |

I bought a used 516 on the EE here. Couldn't be happier. I wanted lower 1/3 and side buttons for convenience. And I know everyone loves AA's, but my forearm mounted weapon light uses CR123's, so I wanted to standardize.
I will say the AA sights look better since they're more long and lean and less bulky. |

Hate to sound like an ignoramus but I THINK mine is a 517 since it uses AA batteries. There is not a model designation anywhere on it.
I have used it on several different AR's and a Ruger Mini 14 for the past five years without any negative incident and really like it. I came in 4th out of 47 shooters at the last Texas Adjutant General's Combat Rifle Match using this EOTECH with no magnifier. While 1st - 3rd made a case for the 4 power ACOG on full size flat tops, I'm reasonably satisfied with it's performance on a stock M4 Admittedly you do have to remember to turn the thing off when your not using it, but other than that I have had no particular issue with the battery life either. I have recently started experimenting with a magnifier with this sight. While it will never be a dedicated long range scope, preliminary results seem to indicate that a magnifier with a swing away mount really brings out the most potential for this sight. .....Mounger |

Thanks, 77 Sounds like you should buy another 512 and a few AA batteries. I have seven 512s and never had a problem of any kind. No funky battery drain etc. I change the batteries every couple of years with fresh lithiums just to be safe and I am good to go. |

I'm still on the first set of batteries as well. |

I've used EOTech for years, never had any problems with them. Started out with the 511, then 553, now using the XPS.
I'd go with the XPS - short, good battery life with the CR123 batter, and the sideways battery should eliminate the spring failure issue that some of them have had. In general, if you have options, I'd go with a newer verison of most things, so that if you sell it years later, it still has some resale value. |
| For an inexpensive magnifier get one from Primary Arms, and then make it the best by mounting it in a LaRue Tactical flip mount. I have this combo and really like it, the mount is more expensive then the magnifier, but the LaRue flip mount makes the whole package work together perfectly. |
| well my brother recently got the new XPS and when we got a chance to shoot it and ended up dropping the rifle it was attatched to in a puddle of water on concrete. needless to say we were mortified since it was brand new but it still functions flawlessly. i've never had a bad exoperience with any of EOT's products especially the 512. granted they dont have the ridiculously long battery life of aimpoints but i prefer the recticle more. |
