I'm planning on putting a Troy 10" MRF rail on my carbine and I will need a new front sight since I will have to shave the fsb down to fit under the rail. I see there is different heights of front sights and am wondering which one to get. I'm thinking I will need the shorter one, but want to make sure before I order it.

Any rail mounted front sight will work.  There are only two heights.  The ones that sit on rail systems and the ones that sit on railed gas blocks.  The selection of the ones that sit on rail systems in much greater.  I would look into a set of troy flip ups.  They are excellent.

This...

Your looking for the sights designed to work on "same plane" for rail systems .. and Troy is one of the best out there.

You don't need the Micro sights....they're meant for the HK416/POF rail heights. Anything that is meant for those heights or for gas block mounted heights should say what they are for.

Troy folding battle sights are the gold standard.

If you can't get over the price, Magpul MBUS is an economical alternative,

but the Troy folding battle sights are the best and worth the price.

How do you like Midwest Industries?

I like the KAC and Brownells sights. They dont lock in any position so if they are bumped while in use, they just fold back down. Both are built like a tank and have a very simple design.

Any experience with Midwest Industries? I'm looking to put a folding MI HK style front sight on my gas block.

Are the MI sights meant to be used like the HK sights, that is, "center the circles"?

The only issue I see with these type of sights is the tendency to center both circles, front and rear, like the HK sights are
meant to be used.  However, these sights are different in that the elevation is adjusted on the front sight, whereas the HK
has both windage and elevation adjustments on the rear sight.  So when corrections are made on the HK sights, then you
can still center "circle in circle". While on the MI sights, if you make an elevation adjustment on the front sight, then if you center
the post, you will no longer be "centering the circle".  Make sense?

I really like standard configured A2 sights and I am very effective wit them. But I just bought the MI HK-style FS for my new AR10T and I am blown away with how effortless sight alignment is with this FS.
The radiused 'wings' allow very rapid alignment with the rear sight because you are placing a semi-circle inside a slightly larger circle. I am running a troy standard aperture on the rear.

Very happy with this setup.
