Anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with the Bushnell Holosight?  It looks to be an Eotech 512 without the metal shroud.

It is exactly that. I believe you can also but a shroud for it as an accessory later if you wanted it on a SHTF rifle.

Mine works well. Any idea where to get the metal shroud?

Eotech?

The Bushnell may have less battery life too.

I have 2. 1 is basically a 512 Eotech,(AA batteries) the other is a 511.  The 512 ones area rare. Most are the 511's that take the N batteries.
1 is on an AK47, & the other is on a range AR.  Both work great & haven't given me any problems. For the shroud you can not add it because the screw holes are not there. You would have to drill the sight for the holes.

Where did you guys buy yours from?  They seem hard to find online.  Also what is the model number on the 512 or 511 type Bushnell?

Thanks!

I've got 2 Holosights, LNIB. Any one that's interested is welcome to send me a PM. I've been planning to list them on the EE, but haven't yet gotten around to it.

Regards.

You cannot add a metal shroud after the fact. EOTech states this on their website.

I like mine a lot and its stood up to thousands of rounds on everything from .22s pistols to 12GA shotguns. I can't tell the difference between the sight picture between it and an EOTech side by side and have heard the internals are identical. The one downfall with the N battery version is the batteries drain in the unit when powered down.  Granted its very slow, so I never bothered to take mine out between range trips and have had to replace them twice in the past three years.  Not a huge deal but for serious social purposes it would be an issue for me so it only rides on range toys.  Right now its on my AR pistol.

I have 2 Holosights and like them very much. I also have a Eotech 512 and could discern no noticeable difference in the reticules of either optic. Battery life on the 512 is significantly higher. My understanding is that the Holosights use 1st generation technology, hence the higher power requirements. Having said that, the Holosight is a high-quality, cost-effective optic. Small rail footprint. Very light weight.

Anyone have any info on where you can buy the Holosight?  When I google it only Gander Mountain comes up

They stopped making them. They pop up on Ebay or the here on the EE from time to time. Or you could get lucky & find a supplier that still has some stock.

The last one I saw on the EE was a couple of months ago.  Sat for 3 days and finally sold.  Asking price was $180 shipped.

One of the models they made the final time they upgraded them was for Remington shotguns.  Here's a NOS one on GB:  http://v2.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=172394724

I picked up mine on off a local gun forum for $200 IIRC and I had it in my hands later that day.  Not a bad deal IMO.  I really like it.  Been thinking about milling up a metal top cover to keep it protected, but I am not a huge fan of dropping my guns so I may not even bother.
