I just ordered a SWFA 10X SS to do load development for my AR10A4 and my NM 15.  I need a mount that can fit on the A4's flat top upper plus I'd like to use it on my 15 which is an A2.  How can I do this and what would I need?

The only way I can think of to do this is to get a top-of-the-carrying-handle mount for the A2 and use some QD scope rings to mount the scope.  That said, you're going to wind up with a REALLY high scope on the A2.  With how little room for error there is with the limited eye relief on the SS, I can't imagine having a chin weld on the A2 is going to be very much fun.

This is just my honest opinion, the difference in height of the flat top and the A2 uppers are way too much, you should make them the same by replacing your A2 upper with a flat top upper.

If you like the look of your A2 carry handle maybe just also get a detachable carry handle for the new flat top, but with both flat top uppers you could easily use your optic and just adjust your zero every time you switch it.

I've got a very good mount and the majority of members here acknowledge it as one of the best, super return to zero performance, solid construction, adjustable locking mounting levers, and they're also used by our military snipers.

Here's the link...

OK guys.  Did you not get I am using the scope for load development only?  These rifles are used for High Power rifle competition; therefore, the scope will not be mounted to either rifle for any length of time.  Also, even though, AR15s with a flat top upper are allowed, I'm not changing the upper.

Get a detachable carry handle and mount your scope in a carry handle mount. When you use the flat top just use the carry handle too. It will work but will be pretty far from optimal. The best option would be to get another scope. For simple load development (from a bench I'd assume) just go to walmart and grab a CenterPoint or something.

I understand better now what your question means.

You could put a carry handle scope mount (Brownells link below) like the Smith Enterprise or similar other brand on your AR with the fixed carry handle, and you could mount your scope mount on it and your other rifle with a flat top.

If you don't want to spend the money with a high quality brand of mount like the LaRue there are lower priced brands but with less performance and features like, Burris AR-P.E.P.R. or Armalite or Millet, etc. and your choice or either two piece or single piece mounts.
