What's the deal with the Zero Stop feature that some Nightforce scopes have?  I've read what the feature is supposed to do, but what kind of applications is this used for?  I'm ganna stick with the traditional scope - I dont feel it necessary to dish out the extra cash but I'm still curious.

Thanks

For sake of discussion if you take the standard 10MOA per turn Nighforce ( 40 clicks of 1/4MOA ) and have this scope on a OMOA slope base you will be more or less centered in the mechanical adjustment of this scope when sighted in

Because this scope will give you then 50MOA up and 50MOA down , you will have 5 turns up or down from zero

If you are in the field dialing your come ups for different ranges and you need to rezero, it is possible that you become one turn off  ( you need to be smoking dope to be more than one turn off ) from your zero. The reason for this even though the graduations around the knob will be at "ZERO" , the  vertical scale may be off by one revolution . I have a couple of NSX  ( w/o zero stop , and Leupold MK4 w/ M1 and I seldom remember which vertical scale my zero is at

On my NSX with Zero stop, when I need to return to my zero, I just turn the knob until it stops . It makes it idiot proof , especially in the dark

A single turn knob does away with this problem. The Leupold M3 is single turn but adjustments are too coarse (1 MOA ! ) for my liking. The USO EREK has much finer adjusments. The S&B PMII is a bit better ( 1MRAD )

To me the most elegant is the double turn found on the S&B PMII . The knob has a bright yellow indicator to let you know you are on the 2nd rev

IF you are buying a new NSX you are already spending some serious $$. I would spend a bit more and get the ZERO stop

If you actually use the scope for it's intended purposes and will be running the knobs it's a very nice feature and certainly worth the extra $$.
