How many rounds do you have through the Barska?
I liked mine when i had it, but at ~400 rounds the front lense popped out I have around 500 through it right now and this is from last Friday at 100 yds. Seems to be holding zero so far. Black Hills 69 gr SMK/ Armalite M4 upper/ 1:9 twist chrome moly barrel. 1/2 shot with Barska 1/2 shot with PA micro

It is said that 1~10 MOA adjustable, but it's continuous and hard to tell what exact size you are on...well I'm usually happy with 6~7 MOA, and this is it? Actual view is much better than my crappy picture...

Thought I would throw my budget optic up here. It is a UTG Accushot Swat Scope 1.5-6x44 w/ R/G illuminated crosshair reticle. Only paid about $80 for it...not bad if I do say so myself. And I have had no issues with quality or holding zero. This setup is only temporary, this is just the only pic of it I had.

Why no posts about the Bushnell TRS-25?
2500-3000 hour battery life, waterproof and so far so tough. Essentially a 120 dollar aimpoint micro h1. I personally think this beats the EOTechs hands down on battery life and weight alone.

Just got the Primary Arms M3 clone today, its great. I also got the aimpoint rubber cover thing too, now im not sure but it doesnt seem to fit 100% correctly.
I ordered Saturday at 11AM eastern, got shipping notice at 11:15AM eastern, and received it today, thats amazing. Props to USPS, they got it from Texas to PA in two days! It is solid feeling, and i was just playing around with it outside, and it works no problem. Its bright and sunny outside, and 4+ work perfectly fine for shady areas and i could see the dot at 7(highest) very easily on anything in direct sunlight, and i could see it when i aimed at the sky too.

The only downside i see is it makes everything look slightly blue, and also when used inside it looks like there is a scratch on the lense because a small thin line of red is visible above the dot. Im not going to spam with pictures but i have pictures of each power level in doors. I tried with my light, but the camera didnt pick up the dot, the lowest setting i would feel ok using indoors with the light was 4/7, without the light was 3. |
I have had a spare CMMG M4 complete upper laying around for a while, but no cash to do anything with it. So, after splurging on a UTG A2 rear sight, I set to work chopping down an old Leapers riser mount (approximately 3/4") that was in my spare parts box. I needed to shorten this mount, and I made the cuts on my miter box, fitted with a standard carbide blade. I took about an inch off of both ends. Just a little de-burring with a file, and then some black Sharpie on the cut surfaces. I then mounted a Blazer red dot scope, co-witness is lower 1/3. After adding 4 clicks to the A2 rear, I laser bore at 25yds. Then I range zero at 50yds, as per the Santose RIBZ. FSB is F-marked, but after elevation zero (lollipop), the front post is just a tiny bit above the "norm". Windage elevation is near mechanical zero. The old Chinese red dot, zeroed at 50, is still doing great. Very fast acquisition on softball sized targets at 50 yards, off-hand. Decent off bags at 100. I have since put 600 rounds through this rig, no problems so far, and even the thumbscrews are still tight. The red dot is about 12 years old, and has seen thousands of rounds, and several rifles. Not your normal set-up, but I just wanted to post up something different. Below are a few photos. Thanks for reading.

ARFCOM member Cyclic turned me onto this scope with a thread a while back. It's a Leupold 1-4x20 shotgun scope with the 'tactical turkey plex' reticle and factory FDE finish. These can be had from the Leupold Custom Shop with a holdover reticle custom-made for any load on Earth, and with the parallax set at any distance you desire for less than $300 shipped. While I originally planned to go the Custom Shop route, I ended up getting the 'factory' scope for $142.00 shipped, from Cabela's of all places. No joke. Yeah, the parallax is set at 75 yards, but at this price I can still send it in for adjustment to the Custom Shop and still be money ahead. We'll shoot it for a while first. This is my back-up AR anyway. 
Now I just need midlength MOE handguards. COOOOOMMEEE ON MAGPUL!!!

Sorry, no real review since I'm still waiting for the new SSALT mount but I can say... The blue illumination is pretty useless unless in very low light, red is not day-time visible but I don't see that as a problem. The turrets on the gen II are smaller profile and covered unlike gen I. Turret adjustments are not perfect but pretty clean especially for such an inexpensive scope. Adjustments are clear and audible clicks. The lense covers are OK but can be knocked open rather easily. If it is not a true 1x it is damn close! Definitely less than 1.25x. |

Do any of these budget to mid-range variable optics have a bright enough reticle to use like a Aimpoint/Eotech at 1X?
It seems all the sub-$500 ones only have illumination for low-light/dark shooting. Konus M30, Weaver 1-3X, Millet DMS, Leatherwood CMR, Bushnell 4200, etc., all seem too dim for fast 1X stuff (I have no experience with 1-4s, just ACOGs and Red-Dots), but I'd like to see if there was a nice affordable middleground option to sell me on the concept). . Would I just have to go up to the Trijicon TR24 to get a useful 1X red-dot type sight out of a variable 1-4X? |

Here is my Che-otech or Chinese made Eotech on my S&W M&P15-22. It is not as good as my real 511, but for $57.00 delivered to my department, it is a really good knock-off of a 552. Even came with the flip up cover. I am very happy with it, but I should have bought a NightForce! The link to where I got it is at the bottom of the post. I highly recommend this for .22 AR's.
